Taking a breather from rv.net

I think I need a break; it seems lately that about 2 of 3 threads become argumentative, and the same skillets of hash get reheated over & over: half-ton bashing, Toyota bashing, GVW vs do what you want, get a dually, gas vs diesel, torque vs HP, etc etc

Worst part is that it's brought out negativity in me; over the past few months I've been in a handful of skirmishes and that never used to happen over the first several years I followed this forum.

So call me GSP...I need to step away for a while...if/when I come back it'll be fun to catch up.

In the meantime, enjoy your trucks, campers, and most importantly the people you camp with!

Good luck to you all.

I can appreciate the OP's sentiments. It frequently gets like a sandbox in an elementary school playground, not just this board, but the others as well. Guess the anonymity afforded by the Web brings out less than the best in some...........

Nawww- actually its due to old people with to much idle time in their lives!

Hey, I resemble that remark! :B Is 60 and change old? I'm not sure........ What was the question again???????????:B

If people would simply post what they have in their signature, (Yes I am guilty of not posting), we would automatically know what they think is "Best" and "Correct". My favorite was a person on one forum who admitted that he had never seen or owned one but still stated that something was no good. That was after the OP asked for first hand information.

Not bad. This topic went(3) full pages before "the govt." was mentioned....

There's nothing wrong with RV.net.
It's all the gov'ts fault.
If Al Gore hadn't invented the internet we wouldn't be having this conversation right now, would we??LOL

So true.

You'll be missed bmanning. I can understand, but do check in once in a while.
I too have learned to skim some posts, and abandon some threads all together when they get stupid, but I'll admit to a sick adiction of sometimes sitting on the sideline watching "Discussions". Especially here on the tow vehicles section. I do enjoy these forums, have learned much, but I stick to my rule that if I wouldn't say it to you in person at the campground, I won't type it here. I see it all the time though, it almost always starts when someone posts info that they truly believe is right, then someone calls that into question, or flat out says it's wrong, and it all goes south.

I have cut back for the same reason as the OP. The threads are repetitive and argumentative for no reason other than someone has too much time on their hands and loaded with mis-information. An opinion on what truck is best, what caulk to use, etc, is one thing, but when you have some armchair electrician who has never picked up a VOM asserting how a 50A service works and how to troubleshoot it, that's over the top, not to mention potentially lethal. Then there is the 3rd and 4th party information that someone read on the Internet. It has to be right because it was on the Internet, right? Throw in a couple of formulas from retired engineers that you have to be a math major to understand and the thread goes to hell in a handbasket pretty quick because no one wants to be wrong even when they're wrong. I'm done also.

I still enjoy the forums. I agree it can get frustrating dealing with the rudeness and mis information. However I try to never take other members comments personally. This is a vast group with very different backgrounds and experiences resulting in a lot of varying responses. I try to gain knowledge when I can and add my 2 cents when I can.
Post often go astray because we are dealing with the written word and anonymity.
There is no tone or voice inflection in our comments and it's easy for one to be brave/mean with their comments and remarks hiding behind a keyboard.
Nevertheless we should all remain civil and respectful in our dialogue. If for some reason this is not possible than taking a break is a good idea.
I simply choose to agree to disagree on certain comments and move on. I may add my comments but I try not take anyones elses comments personally.
I read these forums for enjoyment, and to gain a little RV insight. I do not take them serious enough to be angered or upset.

This forum is for the passing of information.

If I want friendly idle chat I look to other forums for that. I used to go to this forum's ATC sub forum for idle chat but I grew tired of EVERY STINKING POST being deleted, or molested by the moderators......... So the ATC lives on without me.

Bmanning,

I'm tempted to do the same. However, if all the guys wearing the white hats just "go away", who's left?

I've run across just as much of the negativity as everyone else here, but also have to recognize the helpful and respectful people. You have been very generous and helpful to me, and I thank you for that. I hope to see you back soon!
