Who has the oldest Tow Vehicle in service?

Age doesn't really matter but I thought it would be fun to ask.

I'll start. Mine is a 2010 Silverado. Beat that! :S

2004 Silverado Ext Cab 1500 LT3. Crate motor at 185k miles, 206K on it now. Recent "investments"...alternator, rack/pinion, PS pump.
Tranny still humming along..knock on wood.

04's had some "issues" early on and most of those bugs got worked out under warranty. Had the dash pulled 3 times to replace actuators.

But.. really like the truck and it looks like it can go for another 200k if I keep maintaining it.

Still plan to get a new one though.

Actually, the bus itself weighing 28k lbs can be considered "towing" full time. Especially as the little Detroit makes less power than modern diesel pickups.

Sometimes I dream about an ISB+Aisin/Allison/68RE conversion, but I'd need a 5.88+ rear axle from a dump or garbage truck.

2001 f350 7.3l dually. Runs and tows great! Well, ummm, it did get a ride home from Washington state on top of a f650 tow truck last Sunday.

New batteries and alternator and the tow truck is not needed anymore.

I retired my 1990 Chevy 2500 350cuin 5 spd manual with only 160k miles on it when I purchased my 2012 RAM 2500 Cummins. The Chevy still pulled strong but brake lines were rusting out and a TV that can't stop isn't a good thing.

The GM 350 cu. in. (5.7L) Diesel was used mostly in Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles; there were a few Suburbans built with that engine.

The notorious problems with that engine were due to an "ID-Ten-T" error.

My '81 Olds Cutlass had that engine and I drove it for over 250,000 miles with no problems. I sold it in '99 and it is still on the road.

The engine in my Suburban is the Detroit 6.2L Diesel and has almost 500,000 miles on it.

Where do you mount the orange triangles when you tow? If you put them on the trailer bumper, do they get covered with soot? 😄

I always thought the 6.2 and 6.5 liter Detroits were reliable. Didn't thy use the 6.5 Detroit Diesel in the military version of the Humvee for many years ?

I understand there are some in marine use.

The 6.5 had some issues with the injector, a crank sensor going out.....a number of us had motors that lasted about 110-130K miles, then they literally blew up. Mine was 105K just out of warranty. I seem to recall one starter on warranty a week after coming home. One alternator. I replaced all the injectors at 120K or so for maybe $500 on my own.....
BUT, even at that, at times I still wish I had it! I like the body style etc of those years better than my 05. Now we are into personal opinions. One can also for very little money, fix the issues with them, unlike the issues Ford caused with the navistar 6.0/6.4 motors. Altho at this point in time, ANY of the issues with all three of these motors are so well known, have excellent KNOWN fixes, that if one like to wrench, go for it. The 6.5 can be built up into the mid 200 to close to 300 hp fairly easy. 400hp is attainable with twin turbos from Penneinsular diesel in upstate Michigan at one time. Then again, they were doing the same hp setups with the old IHC IDI7.3 too!

as far as old, my oldest at this time is my 92 IHC with an idi 7.3 producing a whopping 175/335 hp torque spec, has 140K, still pulls upwards of 12K, loads to 14K, 26k total lbs.
