Huge trip

Hey everyone, I've got my big summer trip planned. This will be by far the biggest road trip I've been on so I'm a little concerned I've bitten off more than I can chew, but I think it will would out great. Over 3 weeks and around 9 000 km I'll be hauling my trailer from Alberta down to North Dakota for a family reunion. From there down to Mount Rushmore, then over to Omaha (I want to see the zoo!), then all the way down to Texas before heading west to see the Grand Canyon, then north to Yellowstone before heading back home. It's going to be quite the trip!

Texas may be hot and humid. Do the Johnson Space Center in Houston if you have time. Enjoy the trip.

We have taken a number of long trips from 1 - 5 months. Our overarching 'rule of thumb', as a starting point, is an average of 100 miles for every day 'out'. So 30 days, we start planning about a 3000 mile trip. We'll have long drive days, followed by a couple days of local sightseeing. This rule leaves plenty of time for meaningful sight seeing, and leaves you feeling a reasonable balance between driving days and touring days. OUr trips often grow into some more miles, but it is a disciplined planned growth still aiming for the drive/see/tour/hike balance. Good luck in your planning.

Great trip IF spread over three camping seasons. Yellowstone itself is worth at least three days.

That is only 266 miles a day every day for 21 days.
Stop 1 day for your reunion. The next day you will have 532 miles to make.

Break down along the way for a day. You will never make it.

Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Devils Tower area maybe Wind Cave alone will take at least 3 days to see. Now you are over 700 miles behind.

Skip Omaha & Texas and then you will probably still be short of time.

Skip TX and Grand Canyon this trip. You need more days out of the RV seeing stuff.

At least put miles, hours and days on a calendar and make sure the team is all-in for the marathon.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate the advice and I do realise it's a long trip but I'm feeling pretty confident about it. And, if it doesn't work out quite right I'll be the first to admit it and do something different next time!

Since the OP didn't ask for advice, and since this apparently ain't his first roadeo (pun intended!), I'll simply say Happy Trails!

Enjoy your trip and be safe!

lol thanks for all the comments, I've spent a ton of time planning this, I've got reservations for most places. I'm not at all worried about not having enough time. I've booked extra time at the places I want to spend extra time at and less at the ones I don't need to. We have numerous days off from driving, some days we only drive a couple of hours to get to a destination. There are some longer stretches too of course, but we both actually enjoy that. And, we're young if we feel like we didn't get to spend enough time somewhere we will just put it on the list of places to visit next time! This isn't my first trip so I know what I'm doing, yes it's going to be a busy trip but that's what we wanted. Thanks again for all the input!

We did a third of what you are planning in 30 days with a Motorhome that made traveling a bit easier. I would suggest eliminating a lot of your travels and do some quality site seeing vs quantity.

The first rv trip with wife and kids was only a week, but we tried to see the world. We had fun, but we were beat to a pulp at the end. So much so we actually looked forward to getting back to work so we could relax a little. That was a first and last.
