Ideas for 2014 in New Hampshire/Vermont area?

We'll be pulling our fiver to Cape Cod for a week in June, attending our God-daughter's wedding. Looking to do a bit of exploring the week after in the New Hampshire and/or Vermont area. Never been there, although we have toured up the coast into Maine. Looking for some ideas, thoughts, and recommendations as to what to see and where to stay. We're outdoor folks who like wooded, roomy campsites with at least water and electric if not FHU's. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations would be most appreciated.

Thanks...

I know I am late to the party but does Bourne Scenic have full hoop ups? Check out Bay View just over the bridge. In Nh cold Springs, Meredith Woods are nice choices. We love Quechee MOA and Lake Champagne campground in VT.

Fashionably late is never a problem. ๐Ÿ˜„

When we were at Bourne in 2012, the sites had water and electric, with the ability to dump grey water into a cistern at the site. There was a dump station for black water, and as I recall, there may be a honey wagon that would pump you out likely for a fee. We don't ever fill our black tank in less than a week, so we just dumped on the way out. The other thing to keep in mind is that when we were there, 30amp hookups were standard, but you were not allowed to run your air conditioner. In conversation with the campground management, I was told that they were upgrading their electrical area-by-area, so this may no longer be the case although their web site still says "No Airconditioners Allowed". One advantage for Bourne is that they allow campfires where many/most others in the area do not.

Thanks for the info, was in the camp years and years back, grew up summers a few miles away. We do like and camp at Bay View Campground, fires and AC here but I do know a lot of places do not allow fires. Have a great time.

We spent a nice week in Stowe, VT. They have a nice zip line that goes thru the forest, nice golf course and beautiful bike path around town.

I live in Burlington Vt and this is a must see area. You can stay at Lone Pine RV park in Colchester, VT. From there you have great access to Burlington, minutes away, Lake Champlain, minutes away, Stowe (about 30 minutes away). Other great areas to visit a short distance are the Island chain in Lake Champlain. One of the best bicycle locations you will find anywhere. This includes Grand Isle, North and South Hero.

I hike all spring, summer and fall and rarely have issues with black flies. I think they have all gone to New Hampshire.

Our blog has a trip planner section for Vermont with links to all of the fun things we did in and around Quechee--including restaurants, hikes, etc...

The Quechee/Pine Valley KOA was great--and there is so much to do right near the campground. We reviewed the campground on our blog:

And if you dig around on the blog by this review we did write ups of great hikes, activities and food in the area.

Short answer is yes. Because the route that runs past the campground drasticlly shortens the trip to NY state, 18 wheelers regularly use the service. Here is a link. Grand Isle to Plattsburgh is the one in question.http://www.ferries.com/

When you stay at Quechee, if your wife is at all interested in cooking, take visit to King Arthur Flour, a few miles away in Norwich, VT. http://www.kingarthurflour.com/visit/

And a this is also a very neat place. http://www.vinsweb.org/

Thanks, Demoon, for the good info. Yes, we have settled on Vermont, and for what we're looking to do, Quechee looks to be at the top of our list, although Champlain Adult looks to be very interesting as well. Question regarding the ferry... Can it handle our rig, 38 foot fiver towed by our Chevy 3500 D/A? All of the ferries I've run into either can't handle the size, or if they do, they charge an arm and a leg. Intrigued by the idea of heading across the lake for the ride home.

Besides Danforth Bay, look at Meredith Woods CG in Meredith, NH. VERY centrally located to mountains, seacoast, etc. Check out North Beach CG in Burlington, VT, run by city parks dept. - Right on Lake Champlain and a great bike trail. Not too wooded or secluded, but a great location. ST

It looked like you said you had decided on VT, since you have not been there. Good idea. I lived there for 45 year and miss it every day. You have been given some good VT suggestions. Our personal choices out of those given would be, Quechee KOA, for it's mid state location and Champlain Adult for it's peaceful and beautiful setting. If you decide on the latter, you could watch the ferries pass the campground carrying passengers across Lake Champlain, from VT to NY, and when you leave, take that ferry to NY - hook up with the NY Northway south to head home.
Enjoy and travel safe.

At Danforth Bay, you can book short stays during the summer after May 1. In Vermont we really like North Beach Campground in Burlington. Sugar Ridge RV Park in Danville is also excellent.

Well if Danforth Bay will not work for you there is Quechee in Vermont. We were not real impressed with the other campgrounds around Conway NH. The KOA in Quechee is very nice and the area is beautiful. We went there last year before doing Bar Harbor.
