Which satellite system along the East coast.

Hi all,
I'm considering installing a satellite tv system in my rv and and wanted to get a feel for what would be system to go with.I know opinions will vary but still.Dish or Direct tv.
The Winegard TRAV'LER DISH 1000 Multi-Satellite TV Antenna or the
TRAVLER DIRECTV SWM Slimline Automatic Multi-Satellite TV Antenna.
And Are both of these about the same to install ?

As posted, it is an FCC rule. The confusion comes from the fact Direct has call centers in India! I called once and got the same response, argued for 20 minuets, before I asked the rep "do you know what an RV is"? His response ,"NO"! They really need to fix that, I called a 303 number in Colorado, where Direct has their Home office and "boom" no problem, what zip code are you in? Bingo, "local" ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX!

The local channel thing is an FCC rule, it has nothing to do with Direct or Dish! You get your "local" channels until the system detects you are out of your local viewing area, then a call to your provider gets you the "local" channels where you are at the time!

As far as reception, we have Direct and have traveled from Miami to Hallifax NS with no problems.

I have DirecTV at home so went with them for the RV. 2 receivers in the RV, $7 each as they are considered just like an additional room receiver at home. I have the Trav'ler SWM dish and like it. It can take a while to lock in on the satellites (longest time was about 10 minutes) but when it does lock in, I get all the channels I have at home, which is just about everything DirecTV offers.

We full time and have traveled east coast west coast and everywhere in between well almost. When we had a house had Direct TV it worked ok. However when you get out of your home area you will not get local channels. Now we have a Pathway X2 with dish. Pathway is a carryout and for about $60.00 you can get a stand for it. It will allow you to run two receivers off the same unit. With dish when you leave your local area you call dish and they program the local channels easy as pie. The antenna is automatic and as long I have view of the southern sky I get tv.

I like that I can move the X2 around to shoot thru trees, etc. I did not get the permanent style roof mount for this reason. I have the DISHFORMYRV app on my Iphone to show where the 2 sets of sats are located; I just set my X2 on the ground so it has a view of one set.

Been fulltiming for 3 years with this setup. Works great. I have a 35 ft chain to keep it from walking away.

Amazon usually has them for about $450-500 including one receiver box.

I have the same system and love it. Extremely easy setup and it works perfectly.

I've had Dish now for 3 years since I started full timing. Whenever I move, I just call them or use their Chat feature online and ask them to change my Service Address so I can get the new local channels. 15 minutes later I have the new locals. Never a hiccup. I think I've watched the 10/11 o'clock news from cities in about 30 different states. Kind of interesting to see the differences in reporting styles actually.

I'm a little surprised - I thought if I had DirectTv it would be the same process.

I bought the Tailgater gear outright, last year. We have the month month option now, and can turn the service on and off. Spendy up front, but we find it to be worth it. I hate sattelite at home, we use cable.

The major heartburn I have with DirectTV is that they do not put out an HD signal that the small, automatic, portable sat dishes can receive. You are limited to analog.

Direct TV is the better of the two and MUCH easier to use.
Much better reception and more channels.

In our 4 years of having a roof top satellite (DirecTv) we only had issues with trees maybe 2 times (we are full timers). We carried a portable dish with us during that time and never used it so we recently removed it. You usually have to give up those shaded sites but we recently stayed at a heavily treed campground and had just enough of a window to get the satellite tuned in. After years of using a portable, we love the convenience of a rooftop. One button to push and you are done. We ask for satellite friendly sites when making reservations.
