Redoing peeling Red Max Pro on 2001 National DP

Almost 3 year old wax job with Red Max Pro is badly peeling. Has been in outdoor storage for 4 months and not washed for many months before that. Out on the road again for several months and have time now to restore finish. I know is is a bitter subject with some but it did a great job for me and it reduced my waxing completely and washing a lot. I have read here that some now just give their rig a good wash with Dawn and Bar Keepers Friend and apply a few more coats of Zep and others do the original prep work with TPS. Any other new ideas? Just spent 5 hard hours in 2 days on the roof washing and removing with BKF and Dawn a black fungus like problem. Thousands and thousands of tiny black dots on the entire roof. At least the roof looks new now. Any new experiences appreciated. Thanks

Trying to post pictures of problem from Photobucket. Fist time I have tried to post. Red Max Pro was not used on the roof. Washed front and rear caps today and they are peeling also but not as bad as sides. Photos are of the right side of MH. http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/donaldclark1/library/?sort=3&page=1
Don, I looked at your pics and, I might be wrong, but it looks like something was applied to your finish that took the RMP off - I've NEVER seen any application look like that after a normal cleaning. We have to remember that RMP/Zep is a FLOOR finish, that's formulated only to stand up to 'damp mop' type cleaning. If you toss RMP or Zep on some fiberglass and then wash it down with a (compared to damp mop) fairly aggressive cleaning agent, it could be problematic. I've used RMP (the original, I still have three gallons left) on my Bounder since 2011, and just stripped it all off for the first time this spring. The key, as has been emphasized before, is GOOD PREP, a nice clean, wax-free surface, and three or more VERY LIGHT COATS.
Always remember, you're a unique individual. Just like the other 7 billion people on the planet...

This spring when I had the time I gave MH a good scrubbing after taking a real beating this winter. Had a lot of black streaks on corners and the rear cap that faces south while parked along side garage need some special care. Since I didn't have any black streak spray remover which has always worked good without having any effect on RMP I used some Mean Green. BIG mistake. Where it ran down sides it took off RMP and it's real noticible.

I wonder about some of these results----I did mine 3 summers ago (this is the 4th) and it still shines. No peeling, flaking, etc but the front has been done over twice due to the fact I drive it almost every week and also wash off the bugs every week....It sits out side in central NC all the time....I am going to give it a refresher this summer just to make it better. I still have a gallon of RMP left.

I get a bit of flacking on the front and rear caps over winter which I correct with a spring wash and wax. I use Bar Keepers Friend and a green scrubber to remove the loose coating and feather the edges. Follow with a good wash with mild soap and water to remove any dirt, bugs and such. Two or three coats of RMP and the caps look good as new.

I have not had problems with the side walls or graphics just the caps after the winter cold temps. I think the flaking might be due to possible swell and shrink of the fiberglass caps. My black decals have already shrunk 1/8 inch or so but look ok at 30 feet going 30 MPH (my 30/30 rule). Coach is out in the South Eastern Virginia weather 24/7/365.

Also found the a strong solution of LA Awesome (3 to 1 ratio water to cleaner) mixed in a pump garden sprayer will strip RMP pretty effectively. Spray in on wait a few minutes then a light scrup with a green pad and the coach is back to dull tied look. Works best not in direct sun so the solution doesn't dry out.

I was so pleased with how the rig came out I tried it on one of the cars - and like it so much I did the other car. .

Adding to my post above, removing old red pro wax with red pro removal and appalling new wax was not hard and always came out looking good, even though I had some issues, my old motorhome always looked new and had good comments at campgrounds..

I'm getting a couple of spots on my front cap, so plan to do a good wash, make sure any loose spots are removed, and do a couple new coats.

My Zep job is now 3 years old, no problems yet (touch wood). It sure looks great after 3 years!
If I were having peeling issues, I think I would likely strip it and redo.

My last motorhome, {Flair 25Y} I applied the Red Max Pro and had peeling on the stripes, had to remove red pro wax and redo twice in 18 months in those areas, it will peel in certain areas, however the RV always looked new with the wax but it does have issues, I have a full body paint now on new motorhome but hope the clear coat holds up..

My application is 3 years old also. In that time, I've scrubbed and just re-applied the top of the front cap twice. I have a bra on the rest of the front. I'm sure its because of my agressive attack on bugs. 🙂
My front door flaked badly after only a year or so. I believed it was because of poor preparation on it on my part. For that I stripped it with the Red Max Stripper. Pretty simple job, messy but simple. Re-applied the door and it is now holding up as well as the rest of the MH. BTW: We fulltime and its exposed to elements all the time....except snow 🙂
I'd suggest washing an area with dawn and re-apply several coats and see what the results are. If not acceptable, you know you have to strip.

You called Red Max a wax. It is not, but you probably knew that since you put it on yourself.

Actually, wax is the enemy of Red Max Pro (or Zep for that matter). You must remove all the wax from your RV. TSP with a scrub brush is the best. I have heard Dawn works as well, No experience there.
My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.
