Wondering if this is ok, or a no go. Operating the fridge on propane while driving to destination.

I tried an experiment one day... turned off the LP at the tank with the pilot light on my Tiger manual-light water heater lit, and timed it. It took over 3 minutes for the pilot light to go out. This is on a 19' RV, so it's not far from the LP tank to the WH. I'd strongly suggest turning off the appliances themselves when fueling, rather than the tank.

Probably a good idea to shut off propane if and when fueling up the gas tank.

I see no reason "shut off propane" - just turn off any appliances that USE propane to eliminate the open flames that could be burning when those appliances are in use.

Actually, that's not quite true according to the MDTA website, it says you're only allowed 10 pounds per tank, maximum of 10 tanks.

Maybe it has something to do with the portable tanks be more susceptible to having a "falling off" accident while in transit.

That's only true if you have propane bottles, like on a TT or 5th wheel. I've gone through with our Motorhome many times without issue. Will be doing it again in about a month.

I called ahead to the fort Mchenry tunnel and was told a big fat NO to using that tunnel with my TT. The 20 lb tanks and the height are out of spec. Looks like I will be using the bridge and ading an hour to my trip.

Just take 695 West to go around the tunnel. It will add some time, but not an hour.

Boston's big dig tunnel doesn't allow RVs with propane tanks. We stopped at the toll booth and they made us turn around. The sign they had there said, no hazardous material.

We run our refrigerator while driving. I've run a cord with switch up to the drivers seat so I can turn it off before pulling up to the gas pumps. Hards part is to remember to turn it back on after leaving.

No propane in any of the Baltimore tunnels, you have to go around.

In Virginia around Norfolk and Hampton Roads you just have to turn off the propane to go through the tunnels. Va DOT asks that you stop at the check stations before going through the tunnels. (Or so I was told when I called).

Chesapeak (sp?) Bay Bridge has (or had at one time) signs that said to turn off your propane. But we are talking about a tunnel that goes for miles. Not a short 100-200' tunnel.
