If we get I-phones, should I get 2, one for each of us. Or do you guys make do with one I-phone per family?

Do you need a smartphone? Do you need a phone of your own? I can pretty much guarantee that your wife wants a mobile phone of her own, but it is up to her to decide whether or not she needs a smartphone.

Otherwise it is situational. Not everyone needs to carry around a phone, although most people now want to. Not everybody needs to be carrying around a powerful computer in their pocket, although most enjoy playing it.

For about 20 years before my wife died, she had the only mobile phone in the family, I was either with her, or at work, where personal mobile phones were still banned as a detraction and security risk.

When I retired and started going places aone while she was at work, she made me get a Tracfone so that she could call me when she needed help or wanted to issue instructions. That didn't work out so well because I wasn't used to carrying a phone around and usually left it at home.

My older daughter's four member family is a four-smartphone, four tablet family. My younger daughter's family of three is a two non-smart, one tablet family, although the four year old would probably like to have his own smartphone and/or tablet, as he is the most fluent in the use of these devices, whether iOS or Android. But that doesn't make him ready to be carrying one around.

If you think you want an smartphone to play with, and your wife wants one, you need two. They don't share very well. That's also why, in many families, each computer user has their own computer, or tablet, if that's the direction they've gone. In a lot of families each also has their own TV.

But you have to figure out your own situation.

Now, if you have multiple spouses, they each get their own phone, but you don't put them on the same shared plan. That's how my dummy brother in law got caught by his first wife (the second one knew what was going on).

So, if you have this hotspot ability in the Android, how do you use the laptop online?? Do you need another plan or another hotspot for that if you use a laptop and need internet access while traveling?

Our iPhones (four in our family) have hot spot capability. You just go to settings on the phone and turn on the hot spot. It creates a wifi network that you can then "see" with your laptop and connect to. You're using your phone's data plan.

When we travel in addition to our phones we bring along a laptop and an iPad. DH needs the laptop for work and if I'm doing a lot of surfing I prefer the larger screen of the iPad. We connect to the internet as needed via the hot spot feature on our phones.

I have found it best to have the same phone regardless of which one. Once you know one, you know the other. Easy to share apps, calendars, and a host of other features. We have two iPhones and two iPads. We also have two Windows Laptops and have no issues transitioning from one to the other.

If you like to call each other when out and about, get 2.
If you don't like to be bothered when you are out and about, get 1.;)

"I-phone for Each Spouse?"

How many spouses do you have?

Phones tend to be kind of expensive, but I guess cheaper than a divorce.

Personally the wife (just one) and I both use Andriod---Galaxy S5.

Still like my laptop for random "surfing" and e-mail writing, etc... The phone screen is just to small, and I get tired of moving the page back and forth.

I do like being able to voice a quick e-mail if needed. Plus that GOOGLE thing has ruined me with the instant access to any question I might have.

The wife had a flip phone prior to this. She swore she "Did NOT need e-mail, FB, texting, etc... She just wanted the occassional use of MAPS. She is now on the thing all the time---she even learned to download APPS :R

In our case, they are in addition to our iPads and laptops. Some apps just need the bigger screen real estate.

We only need my wife's I-phone with us. We are together when travelling and I don't see the need to pay any more for a second expensive phone.

in addition to the PCs. there are some things that are just plain easier on a PC.

You betcha, that's why we carry the Mac when we are cross country.

Knowing what I know now that I didn't think about when I got ours a year ago. I would get a bigger screen for my wife's phone so that you can use it for a GPS and see it better. I like the smaller models to put in my pocket. The wives carry their's in their pocketbook anyways so size doesn't matter. My son in law broke two screens on his I phone 6 model.
