Driving on two lane roads with our classC,
I make it a habit to pull over if I get five or six vehicles behind me.

It is very rare, almost never happens, that drivers whom I went out of my way to help,
ever toot their horn or wave.

Strange that the truckers have time to blink their clearance lights
when you signal that it is OK to cut back in,
others, I guess are too self important
to indulge in a simple courtesy!
Life is short,Death is long,
Take a vacation.

The one thing that irritates me most about doing the right thing and pulling over to let a potload of vehicles pass is that you have to do it over, and over, and over again on the same road within a few minutes of the last time you did it.

So ... you're not only wasting a lot of fuel with repeated accelerations to come back up to speed, but you're also wearing your brakes faster. 😞

Some do....some don't.
Cars, RVs, truckers - or all sizes, shapes and configurations.

It is what it is....
and may have nothing to do with being courteous or lacking courtesy.
You will never know unless you were to interview the driver.

Sooo....
Why worry about whether you do or don't receive "acknowledgment"?..:?

I generally won't wave if someone pulls over to let people pass. Then again, I won't tailgate if someone's going slow either.

Don't paint them all with the same brush. The vast majority of truckers are professional and courteous. With the amount of miles they put on in a year they have to be.

Yes - Yes - and Yes on Campfire time's post. Here lately I am being cut off way too close by OTR truckers. I will signal him when I think it is safe, after all I am the one being passed. I notice here lately when another 18 wheeler is in the passing lane and one truck passes me, he will cut back in with only inches to spare so as not to impede another trucker. I don't care anymore what their schedule is. Life is short enough and death is long.
I really don't think these guys, OTR truckers, are being inconvenienced that much by the 4 wheelers or Rvers any more. I think most of them hate their job and simple carry a bad attitude around.

Being a motorcycle rider the "wave" is driving me nuts! I don't care if I do or see another "wave" the rest of my life.

I have never been "thanked" for pulling over. On the flip I don't do it when I'm driving my car either. Rude? Maybe. My reasoning is that if I honk, they might think I'm honking out of anger. If I wave, they most likely aren't going to see me anyway. As a passenger my wife will wave if she thinks the other driver can see her.

As far as flashing for trucks, I haven't got a "thank you signal" for that in years. In fact most don't even wait, they just start pulling in. I think they are so jaded by people not letting them in.

Regardless of whether truckers flash a thanks, it's safer for everyone around you if you flash them in. I've always done this, even in the car. I have noticed that almost none of them flash a thanx. Used to be just the dump truck drivers; now it's almost all truckers. Things have changed in the 40 years since I drive a rig. Now, they're all stressed trying to eek out a living.

There's a certain hierarchy within the trucker community and I believe RVs are below "dirt truck dummies".

I have found over the last few years that fewer and fewer truckers will blink their lights in appreciation after you flash to let them move over.

I am with some other posters - so many people simply don't know about driving "rigs" (big trucks, campers, etc) and what they need for room, speed, etc.

In my town when a delivery truck needs to pull out or especially back into an area, cars will just continue to zip around it not letting it move. It usually isn't until someone in a pickup truck (or larger truck) stops traffic that the delivery truck can maneuver.

Too many are just not paying attention to the world around them. Similar to what has been said, it seems that paying attention distracts them from texting...

LOL! Vermont seems have two types of people... rednecks in trucks (I know about that, I are one), and "green" people in Prius or especially Subarus.

I don't live in Vermont, but I go up there regularly. I do keep my mouth shut mostly, as I am one of those "out of staters"...

I find that doing the speed limit eliminates the need to pull over to let folks pass. If I read the law correctly, you only need to pull over if you aren't going the speed limit. That begs the question, why aren't you going the speed limit in the first place?

Where we live, the only roads with paved shoulders are interstates. None of the 2 lane roads have paved shoulders. If for whatever reason I wasn't doing the speed limit, I wouldn't pull over onto a soft grass/dirt shoulder to let people pass.

If you do something (pull over) with the expectation of getting something in return (a thank you wave, horn toot), then there really isn't a reason to do it. How are people supposed to know your pulling over as a favor? Let it go - someone once said "Life is short,Death is long, Take a vacation."

I also will move over IF there is someplace to move to safely. I get my revenge when I blow all the rv tailgaters off the road when I drive my Corvette though.

Should add my pet peeve I see daily. On the 35 mph stretch they go 25 then we rach the 25 mph part of the road and they speed to 35. Huh?
