Seems like the ideal hobby for people who like to travel and have an adventure, so I'm wondering how many of you are?

I stated it poorly. What I mean is I find nothing that gives me the lat. and long. of the location.

What do you mean by "learn the coordinates"? When you search an area and you see the caches listed, the coordinates will be listed. You can manually enter them into your GPSr or pull them up on the free introductory phone app if using a smart phone. Now if you are trying to send the coordinates to your GPSr, then yes, you may need a premium membership in order to download pocket queries. But I don't understand what you mean by learning the coordinates.

You don't have to be a paid member to get the coordinates but you do have to be registered on the site. If you joined by completing the registration info then make sure you're signed in and the cords will show.
If it shows you as signed in then try signing out and signing back in. That usually gets you in OK.
Sometimes if you change something with your registration it won't take effect until you sign out and back in.

We (gllmb) started last year. Our oldest (7) has made his first find. Great activity to keep kids interested when we're at national / historic sites.

Started in 2006. About 3300 finds. Delormes and counties done in SC. Working on surrounding states. Prefer challenge caches, virtuals and earths. Try to get each county and delorme we pass thru. 4 countries so far and adding another in March. All placed dates completed, 366 days completed, all 81 D/T's completed, 50 hides. All but a hand full of months placed done. Closest year 2000 caches to us are at best 600+ miles away so those are gonna take a little longer to complete. 11 types in a day, several states top 10 caches, each cache type top 10, etc. So much more to it than light skirts in a WalMart lot!

My wife and I have been geocaching for about 5 years. We go by the handle Phar0e on geocaching.com. We now use the official iPhone app exclusively. It's handy for submitting finds quickly. We love that geocaching takes us to places we would have never seen otherwise.

We also Geo-Cache. Have one Bug out there that we have not heard from in a while. Probably because it was last in Indiana. Brrr!

My first cache is a treasure trove! It's got a Garmin "cHirp" located inside so people with Garmins will be alerted when they're close (with a text message!)

I'm having a cache "saturation" issue with the place where I want to hide it!

In our area we have so many caches that I am gong to go put my new hides in the woods near several campgrounds.

I have a Magellan GC paperless and it works good I have found caches in Oregon, Nevada, Utah and Colorado and will add more states this fall.

Started off with a Garmin Geko 201 and still have it. But mainly using the iphone and the official app. Not in the budget for a new GPS right now. I kind of like going off the fly with the iphone. Always have it with me, so no matter where I'm at, I just search for caches nearby. You will be amazed how close they are when you least expect it.

I/we love to combine geocaching with our camping. Before every trip I look for interesting caches. Finding hidden historic places are our favorites.
Our geocaching profile makes it easy to see where we have been. Many finds in the Gold country, Big Bear Lake, Anza Borrego desert, Valley of Fire, even Yosemite (where there are quite a few "virtual" caches").
We use a Garmin Oregon that can hike, be mounted on our bikes, or even on our dual sport motorcycle.
Not many interesting near home in Los Angeles, but fun none the less.
Oh, and we have hidden one cache near home on a quiet maintenance road near Marina Del Rey wet lands.

We use the DeLorme PN-60 and occasionally the Geocaching iPhone app.

We've had Magellan Tritons in the past, the DeLorme is a much better handheld.

When pricing a handheld GPSr, Include the cost of maps. All companies provide basemaps, but that gets you the major highways and little else. You have to add detail maps, sometimes for hundreds of dollars.
North America detail maps are included with all DeLorme units.
