Best way to combat mosquitos

While we are solidly snowed in here in Rhode Island, we cant stop thinking about summer and RVing! We are already thinking about getting ready.
What have you found to be the best way to combat mosquito and pesky bugs around the campsite? Sprays, zappers, lanterns? Are there any reasonably priced screen rooms that attach to an awning, and if so, are they worth getting?
Thanks for all of your experienced opinions.

Get a Thermacell, I hunt and fish, can't beat it. Home Depot sells them now, about $25
They also have newer model that is a battery operated lantern and repellant

Thermocell works really well. Even on no-see-ums and sand fleas.

We sometimes put a log of fat lighter on the fire, but that's more of a southern thing.

X2. I use two of them. Attach one on each awning pole. No issues at all this way. Wind is an issue, but usually if it's windy, i don't have issues with the skeeters anyways.

Thermacell is the best product i have ever used and you don't have to spray yourself with******for it to work.

It really depends upon where you are geographically and how bad the bugs are.
I've camped where bugs are just pesky and I've camped (9-Mile Forest Service Campground in Northern MN in early June) where they were horrible.

In situations where bugs are really bad, DEET and a headnet are probably going to be the only thing that will work and only somewhat. Or maybe a combination of everything that people have mentioned here. A huge fan blowing couldn't hurt, but you'll have to confine yourself to sitting in front of it.

We tend to do most of our camping in later summer and fall and therefore avoid the worst bug seasons.

Other than a screened room, try Avon Skin So Soft. They sell it at Walmart now I believe. It's a very effective way to repel mosquitoes and other bugs like gnats. It's definitely available through Amazon.com

Fans work; smoke works; but just like repellant, the air flow or smoke needs to be pretty close to YOU to keep the bugs away from YOU.

If all else fails, headnets and long sleeves. 😞

If you are on an electric site, get a regular desktop house fan that rotates. Plug it into the outside plug on your rig. Run it on high rotating. Set it up so chairs and fire pit are in front of it. It will blow the mosquitos away and will also help keep the fire from blowing in your face or in your trailer.

X2

I bought a box fan placed at one end of the MH so it blows along the side of the MH where you sit. No mosquitoes.

Ants and bugs, I take care of by sprinkling Sevin around all the tires, hoses, cords to prevent them from getting inside the RV. And if I am staying a while in a CG I will sprinkle the perimeter of the site with it to keep them away from where we sit.

Screen rooms are a real pain to put up, expensive and they do not keep out the bugs.

And for me why I won't use one is more importantly if a storm comes up you won't have the time to get that screen room down to get to the awning to prevent wind damage to your awning. Just saying something to think about.

A combination of the fan, in our case 12 volts, and staying inside when they are active. For hiking we use a low percentage Deet.

Have a stand alone screen room, it works but it gets kind of hot, it's also too much hassle to deal with if it's just for a weekend, but then ours is big and heavy. A light weight easy to erect screen room might be worth trying.

Get a Thermacell.
It is the only way to go.
You can get them at Walmart, Dicks Sporting goods and Home Depot.

They absolutely work great
