Diesel is $2.09 in Greenville SC and the roads are pretty darn good. Glad last summer was the last time I'll have to go to California, not that I'll be missed.

Correct - you won't be missed..:R:R

But - YOU and folks from other states get a heck of a deal!!..:S

Yeah, you pay more for gas *while* you visit CA, but you get to use
the roads CA residents will be paying for - for free!

CA needs toll roads (Interstates) like many other states, so you can pay your fair share to use 'em..:

If, and that's a big if.... the increase in gas tax is used ONLY for highway infrastructure...that will be great and I'm more than willing to pay the increase.:C

Really, it doesn't matter to California whether you're more than willing or not. If you want gas/diesel you'll pay it. Like it or lump it. ๐Ÿ™‚

And that's a fact Jack! However my statement was just meant that "I" personally not only will (due to the fact I don't have a choice as long as I live in California), be willing!

That's all folks.

IMO the people deserved what they get from the Politicians they elect. I left CA 17 years ago and do not miss all of the taxes and high costs of living there. That is the worst State run by he Democrats who never saw an opportunity for raising more taxes. Just like the High Speed rail they are building and are Millions over budget.
No wonder so many Large Corporations that have moved out of State.

Guarantee they will find a way to fund the low high speed train and NONE will go to road improvements.

And no one has mentioned that California is projected to have a $2.8 billion surplus. So why do they have to keep taxing us more?

Only blue people in blue states believe this. The money goes into the general fund. Monies from the general fund goes to whoever will get a state rep re-elected.

A similar situation is going on here in Colorado about raising taxes for roads. But the saving grace is the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) in that any tax has to be put on a ballot and put to vote. It is slated to go on the ballot but is projected to fail.

I'm from SC where as illustrated we have low gas taxes and have driven all over the state. We have some terrible roads and bridges yet some places have good ones. Perhaps some Senators brother in law owns a road paving company which is why some are good and some are bad. There have been ongoing fights in the legislature about the topic of roads for years and zip/squat has been done. They have done little to improve funding nor have they fixed what's either gross negligence, incompetence, or corruption.

๐Ÿ™‚ Heh Heh. I suppose. But there is an impression that we EV drivers have a free ride because of course we don't buy fuel. How they spend it is out of our control but I think its important to pitch in with everybody else.

We are well travelled and have seen many countries where taxes are very low. None of them are places I want to live. ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately, Indiana is in the process of doing the exact same thing. Not only are they trying feverishly to increase tax on fuel, but they are working feverishly to enact a $5 wheel tax on every wheel on your vehicle, plus $150 at registration for electric cars. This has been on the local news pretty consistent for the last several weeks. They keep pushing for additional taxes somewhere. It's crazy. To the best of my knowledge, nothing has made it through YET!

FYI, the county I live in already charges a wheel tax on everything on the road. Now they want to add another one at the state level? Sheesh!
