Drunk driver wrecked my truck tonight - pics

I consider myself to be quite defensive when it comes to driving, always watching out, looking at other vehicles, preparing for any bonehead thing they may do....

But you know, sometimes some clown does something right into the path of your vehicle and there is not a blinkin thing you can do except brace for impact.

I was just about to enter an intersection on a green light tonight when a driver in a 2001 Mazda sedan had stopped to wait for me. Then he suddenly booted it and turned left, right in front of my truck.

Cars in the other lane, there wasn't a thing I could do except slam on the brakes and brace for impact.

I got out and walked over to see if he was ok. Shaken and dazed, he was alright. He opened his door and the car reeked of booze. And so did he. :M:M:M

My truck clobbered his car so hard that it spun a full 360 and crashed into a car stopped at the light.

I'm not a happy camper right now. I have been very diligent at taking care of my truck, being careful not to scratch it and so on. For a 6 year old truck it was in beautiful shape, even though it is a work truck.

But nobody was injured, that's the main thing. Tomorrow will tell if there is anything there. My neck is a bit sore on the right as is my right wrist.

Now look at it - I hope it isn't totaled. I would mutter a four letter word now, but can't post it. Use your imagination... :(:(

Never a good thing to be in an accident, especially with a drunk involved. I learned a long time ago vehicles can be fixed or replaced, people sometimes can't. Glad you are ok, but hope you don't pick up an assault charge for hitting the guy.

Looks fixable...avoid aftermarket clone parts. (You're better off with used OEM parts.) Hope the drunk has insurance.

Sorry, but that isn't even funny. He could have killed someone just as easy. My wife had the same thing happen to her this last May. She took a ride to the hospital. The girl almost made it too.

Doubt if it is totaled doesn't look too bad really.

Radiator ok? Inter cooler? Did air bag deploy? Those tend to run up the repair cost.
Should buff right out!
Just get a very good body/frame shop and insist on factory parts!

Just glad you are Ok, I am sure the truck is repairable as it would be hard to replace.

The worst thing in this is your great truck, it becomes like a 'kid' or a 'pet' to you and you don't simply want to replace it - even with a new one.

I know - bought my '03 GMC new and it's just now pushing 200k and ten years, and still runs and looks great. And I looked at new trucks a couple times in the past couple years, then looked at mine again each time, gave it a nice pat on the hood and put the keys back in my pocket.

With enough money and a good lawyer you can get out of it. even if it is 100% proven they were drunk!

Not from experience, but know for sure none the less.

But, I can read this both ways (that you did or that you were adding more to the hitting his car w/ your truck story) - did you punch the guy?

He didn't punch the guy...........he was talking about "hitting" the drunk dudes car.

my neighbors kid got one. she told me all about it. WOW on what he has to pay and the troubles that go along with it.

Glad you were not hurt. I don't know if I could have been calm enough not to blast the idiot. I have no patience for anyone who drives drunk. I have lost a friend to a drunk driver who was driving after suspension, and the 10 year old daughter of another friend when she was hit head-on by a drunk driver. See a doctor if the soreness persists to be certain you have no injuries.

When DH hit a deer one night, the highway patrolman estimated $2,000. In daylight, DH estimated $5,000. Turnedout to be over $13,000 because so many parts under the hood are now made of plastic and all had to be replaced.

Wow glad you are OK. Stated many times before the truck can be repaired or replaced, it is a little harder with life.
