We had a great trip and stayed at Townsend KOA. We have been going to this campground for along time, even before it was a KOA. The weather was great and the week went too fast. As we were leaving they were already closing Clingmans Dome Road and advising against travel over the mountains as they were expecting over 12" of snow! Here are some pics of the trip which started at Cracker Barrel in Dry Ridge KY. Easy on and off I-75. We have the Lacrosse and real truck:) and my parents were parked next to us with the Powerjoke

Here is the view from our site

The fishing in Little River is great too.

We too just left.....we were in Wears Valley between Townsend and Pidgeon Forge. The fall colors were great but I think we left at the right time. Great travel all the way back and the winds didn't pick up until today while we unloaded in the driveway. Good timing! ??

This is very true minus the truck part. If it weren't for them and their advice we wouldn't have been in a position financially at such a young age to enjoy this. We bought our first Wildwood when my wife and I were 24. Now this one at 31. Grew up camping and hope to one day have three generations at once all camping together.

His truck advice landed me a new 08 Ford with the 6.4 and my oh my what a disaster that thing was. Hated to switch brands but I couldn't make myself buy another Powerstroke. I think they have since gotten better with the 6.7 but Im very happy with my Ram

Fixed that for 'ya! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looks like a nice campground. Glad you got going before the storm, but assume that was only in the high elevations.

Looks like you got out in time. All roads in the park are closed today, 6-18" snow. The big problem is wet heavy snow with leaves still on the trees. Lots of trees down across roads and trails all over GSMNP.

Looks like a great spot! Glad you had a good time and thanks for the pics. Currently have the furnace set at 45 trying to ride out this cold snap until last trip of the season in 2 weeks...then the pink stuff....

We always stay at ELKMONT CAMP when in the Smoky Mtns area... Got caught one year coming up from the South and had to turn around when we hit Cherokee - Mtn roads got closed. Had to drive the long way around to get to Gatlinburg.. We was able to get to Elkmont from the Gatlinburg side...

Been going through Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge-Townsend from way back even in the Tent camping days... Great area for us...

Nice Pictures...

Really?!? Talk about Brand Blind!! I should be offended, except I know all brands have their "issues". (most of this comment is made tongue-in-cheek. Not a flame!!)

We were in Elkmont in June and it rained most of the week. Little River was really up then, and even if you didn't camp next to it, you could hear it at most campsites.
