We just purchased a new 5th wheel and the mattress sucks. Need suggestions for a good replacement mattress that is comfortable and will give a good nights sleep.

It really all depends on your body weights as to what will work. I am a big guy and about 265 pounds and my wife average weight. I have spent years simply miserable, especially snow birding for months at a time during the winter.

We tried many various expensive memory foams, gimmick support slats, etc. but with my weight I still woke up an achy mess in a big hole after a couple nights on them all. Unless your an average to lite person any density of memory foam mattress leaves you in a hole.

Finally a couple years ago after spending lots of wasted money and time we bit the bullet and bought a dual chamber Comfort Air during a really great sale. It has worked perfectly for 2 years with my wife having her soft setting on her side and me with a firm setting on my side. I wish we had done this years ago before wasting enough money to have bought the Comfort Air to begin with.-----A while back, my great wife got up in the morning and brought me a cup of coffee while I was still in bed. I said thank you and said I'm so comfortable that I just feel like staying in bed for a while. She smiled and said then the bed was worth it.

I've been suggesting air mattresses for years. It just makes sense. They cannot say if you put enough air in the bladder. We happen to buy comfortaire our cells, two of them, but I'm sure the Sleep Number Bed is just as good. This idea of putting foam over a sagging mattress just beats the Dickens out of my brains. A mattress is supposed to support you with springs or some kind of stiff foam or other material if it's anything short of three quarter inch plywood on top of this it is going to sag.

Brentwood Home Bamboo Memory Foam 11" off Amazon - they come in RV sizes. We have the king though we haven't slept on it yet (sitting in the garage). We bought it because of the great reviews it has and because we needed a RV specific size and didn't want to cut into a new mattress.

I have had a very good experience with a memory foam topper; it transformed the original "mattress" into a quite comfortable mattress.

If the RV has a nonstandard sized bed, a memory foam topper can be cut very easily with an electric knife (the turkey carving kind) or only slightly less easily with a serrated bread knife. I used the latter and it took maybe two or three minutes to transform the queen topper into a short queen topper plus a strip of foam.

Two suggestions: ONE I have done

If you are in/near DETROIT, MI. (The west side) then there is a company on Telegraph, East side of road, between 5 and 6 mile roads. Tri-County Matress.

On one of my trailers they took measurements and custom made a new matress for me. Reasonable price (though the fabric pattern was .. Well chosen by price by me so I can't complain) It was good and FIRM (just what I ordered) NOTE they can make 'em pillow soft or firm or .. Well, my choice is basically "Concrete Slab" and they did a good job.

My current matress is 16 years old and when I get the engine replaced, and the tires replaced, it's one of the two top items on the agenda, I will likely re-vist Tri-County.

NOTE: There are many such companies, I have dealt with this one.

Next: A Internet firm, Casper.com. Do not knwo if they do "RV sizes" but do know this, Google HAM NATION.. Watch an episode or two and you will see Don talk about Casper He will give you a discount code you can use.

That (And Don's E-dress) is all I know about them.

Oh, they ship you install, 30 days later decide if you re-box and return or not. That tells me they think they have a good product.. but I've not tried it.

Just a heads-up for somethings you might need to consider.

We also have a 5th Wheel and purchased a new memory foam matress. Love it. But there can be issues. Ours is thicker than our OEM mattress. No issue while you are sleeping, but since my bed slides under the edge of our wardrobe closet by about a foot when the bedroom slide is brought in, we have to pull the sheets/blankets/comforter up at the foot end and fold them over to allow the mattress to slip under the lip of the closet.

Also, in colder climates, memory foam becomes cold, stiff, and inflexible until your body heat softens it back up some. We countered this with a heated mattress cover - just set it on a comfy temp 30 minutes or so before bedtime. Softens it right up. Then we just turn it off - unless it's really cold outside.

Depends on what you want/need in a mattress. Some of us need them firm (I do best with a 2-inch fiber pad on a hard surface) and others want no pressure points but don't mind sag. You need to shop mattresses by trying them, find what meets your preferences.

I lucked out, my RV came with the same hotel-grade, unpadded extra firm innerspring mattress I've always preferred. Put a two inch foam topper on that, the back pain would cripple me. My baby sister needs the foam pad.

Go to your favorite mattress store find one you like and buy it. That is what we did, got a great buy on a nice 9" mattress full sized Queen and love it.

https://www.mattressinsider.com/luxury-rv-mattress-memory-foam.html Had our for a year and we love it! Out for a month, home then out for two months, plus lots of long weekends and week trips. Bought a new rig and DW said we take our mattress or you keep your motorhome. She won.
