Ours seems to be the tv antenna we look like buzzards circling a dead carcass these days looking at everything so we don't have an issue.

Ok, I guess it is fess up time. I have a very manuverable coach so gas pumps are not a problem as not much rear swing (see picture in sig). But I have historically parked the coach in my driveway by backing it in. Not a problem - normally! Did it many times.

One time, wasn't aligned as normal and proceded to back the coach in. I stopped when I heard "the crunching sound".
Stove vent.

Now if you were brave and clicked on "stove vent" you would have seen what mine looked like. Granted that I planted the tree, but my wife watered it so I think that even though she was in the house, it was her fault!

Think I can sell that?

Lesson 2 - Refer to lesson 1 and don't do it a third time. :B

I'm curious. Does it blow out like it did in the Robin Williams movie RV?

X2
Doesn't blow quite like that but close.
I have done that and have done or been party to just about every blackwater situation possible.
I now buy sewer caps by the gross. :S

I can't think of any stupid things but I sure built one of the strangest looking things on the back of one of our 5ers. We had a pontoon paddle boat for awhile and it had 12" x 10' tubes. I built a unistrut rack on the back end and used strut clamps with big thumb screws to attach the boat, upright, to the rack. Many many people followed us for a lot of miles, trying to figure that one out! Craig

First trip with the new truck it was raining, we stopped to dump and somehow the trailer plug got cut on the hitch. So I pulled into a carwash to fix it. I was using butt connectors to fix it. I got it fixed and hopped in the truck and started to go. I didn't even think about the trailer fitting in the carwash. The a/c didn't fit.

Oh yeah jeepfreak reminds me: A couple of times we emptied the fridge, propped the doors, then forgot to TURN IT OFF. Builds ice nicely over the inside surfaces. ๐Ÿ™‚ Gets tripppppple checked now.

NEVER assume the other half emptied the freezer. Hamburger does real damage being left inside a freezer that's not on after 3 weeks in the summer! Almost had to buy a new fridge.

Well, lets see...

Most recent was to leave a levelling board at a campsite due to failure to do a walk around of the site before driving off. Not that big a deal, it's just a piece of wood, but still. Left a couple of things behind this way. :S

On the same trip, didn't get the TV antenna stowed properly, found it at the first walkaround. Again, didn't check it before driving away. Fortunately, no harm done.

More serious, had the emergency exit window by the bed flapping while going down the road. Couple of guys in a pickup pulled alongside and, using some peculiar hand signals, made us aware there was a problem. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Lost the screen and shredded a mini-blind, but no real damage. Apparently the wife had "butt-unlatched" it while loading. Now on the checklist.

While learning about the aerodynamic characteristics of the FW / TV combination, lost the lid to a Smokey Joe grill out of the truck bed. What makes this embarrassing is that I was going to give this grill to friend at the CG. Went to get it for him and, hey, where's the lid? :?

Our first and most serious: Punched a hole in the inside wall panel by failure to remove a slide lock before opening the slide. :E This was made possible by 1) my not positioning the slide lock against solid structure which most likely would have just stalled the slide, and 2) by our "so-called friends" disturbing our set up routine because they were so happy to see us that they wanted to drink beer and visit while we were setting up. All their fault. Yeah. :W Really, just cosmetic damage, but it kind of smarts.

All in all, not so bad for us just kind of jumping in without much RV experience. But also why I advise people to buy used for their first RV. First, don't spend a lot of money then find out you don't like it. Second, you're probably going to ding something while learning. Ding a used something. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tailswing becomes ever more present with a swivel wheel attached.

I went down the wrong lane in a campground and had to make a hard left then a hard right. Lots of cars and people. Made it until the last bit of swing to the right when the swivel wheel brushed a fence. Had half a dozen people out there pushing the fence over so I could get free.

No damage but my pride. Lord, that's a lot of trailer back there with the swivel wheel attached.

We are new RV'ers, but I'm a generally mechanical / complex machinery kinda person, so I think I've been pretty good about remembering all the pieces and parts and clearance for slides and such (so far - knock on wood).
First trip out - arrived at the CG after dark. Didn't look closely enough for the sewer cap before I steered into the pull through site. I guess in my newness I just figured they'd always be on the outside of the hookup post. Pulled in and parked a trailer tire right on the cap and it went off with a loud pop that caught everyone's attention in that corner of the CG! I felt a little stupid for a few minutes, but I got over it when I saw our site was the only one like that in the daylight the next morning.

That's okay! What good is it if we can't laugh at ourselves, once in a while. :W Wasn't funny at the time I hit the overpass, but I can laugh about it now. I'm certain not to make that mistake again.:S
