Honda EU3000is will not start

Starting a new post.

Bought a used 3000is, was told it has been sitting for 1yrs.

Things that I did to it:
*Carb rebuilt
*Fresh new gas
*New spar plug
*Fresh oil (FILL TO MAX & OVERFLOWED)
*Check valves to make sure it open & close

Symptom: Oil Alert will flash/blink when try to electric start or pull start

Every 10-15 pulls, it will back fire one time. When doing testing the spark plug, I will see the spark 1 or 2 time before the oil alert flash/blink and no more spark. If try to restart same thing, will get spark for about 1s, then no more because oil alert flash/blink.

Measure oil switch to ground = open
Measure yellow wire to ground = open

Anyone has a service manual for the EU3000?

At this point, I suspecting the a faulty ICM, but don't know how to test it. Or the Key switch.

Question: will any ignition coil for the gx200 work motor,
No, it's a different part, & different PN

The PN for your EU3000is ign coil is; 30500-ZL0-D32

mikestock-

I ohm the oil alert, it's floating/open which is good. I think 'SO" might be right, my ignition coil might be bad.

Question: will any ignition coil for the gx200 work motor, or it has to be for gx2000 eu3000is ignition coil?

I have dealt with the same situation, i.e. blinking oil light, for over two years and haven't found a good reason. It pops up whenever I change the oil. It has happened when I picked it up and maybe tilted it 45 degrees or so. I let it sit for a day and then it may start. When I run it now I always turn off the fuel and let the gas run out. So far it has not been a problem for the last 6 months or so but it will probably show up again after the next oil change. I just assumed, like you, that the oil float was sticking. Even tried cutting the sensor wire to see if it would help (yellow I think) and ramming coarse wire into the fill hole to free it up to no avail.

I don't load it up to take camping anymore because I don't trust it, but when I use it for home outages I gently roll it out and turn on the fuel valve. It has started every time recently. Turning the fuel off and running it out of the carb probably has nothing to do with whether it starts but that's just my routine.

Very interested to see if you come up with a solution. I really haven't, but I know it has to do with the blinking oil light. Mine is 13 years old and has a gazillion hours on it. When it runs it purrs.

As you see in my posts I also have a pair of IS2000i models that can be used when tailgating. They're just louder and burn more gas.

If I discconnected the yellow (oil switch), and measure I get "open" circuit / 1mega ohm
When try to start, I get the same thing ie. about 1s of spark then no more spark as the oil alert flash/blink.

If I discconnected the Blac(ignition coil), and measure I get "short" circuit / .2/.3 ohm
When try to start, no spar at all & oil alert does NOT come on.
Check & clean key switch and measure continuity for off = good. For on = I get short circuit on IG&E. If, disconnect connectors from key switch & ICM, all test are good for key switch.

What is the resistance suppose to be for the ignition coil? I feel that the grounding or low resistance on the ignition coil is causing my oil alert to go on and trigger the no spark.

thanks.

Here's a complete ignition system troubleshooting guide (no spark) for the Honda EU3000is.

Short version:
1. Test/check ignition switch, oil level switch, and coil. Replace as necessary.
2. Test/inspection ground lead. If broken on in wrong position, replace/reposition.
3. Inspect ICM (Ignition Control Module) for loose, dirty or poor connections.
4. If all above OK, replace ICM; test for spark.

Sounds like the oil lever sensor "might" be an issue.
I have an EU1000 that has an issue staying running. I have had it torn down about three times & still having an issue. I want to sell the dam thing but don't want to put any more $$$ into it.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Thach2264,

Disconnect the black wire that goes to the ign coil (mag). It is normally grounded when the ign switch is turned off. If it still doesn't run, then replace the ign coil (mag).

Just finished cleaning the flywheel surface rusts. Result, same thing. Question, can I add a 5ohm in series with the ignition coil?

Strangest thing is I still get about 1s of spark when try to start and after that no more spark the same time the oil alert flash/blink.

Think I have to take it to a Honda service center and hope it does not cost an arm and a leg.

Any more suggestion?????????

I would expect maybe 5-10 ohm, not .2 ohms. The fact that the "spark control" unit is involved with the ignition coil as well as the low oil shutdown switch I would suspect that being defective. I doubt flywheel rust would bother anything but would look closely anyhow.
I always suspect there is a reason when something sat unused for a time. Probably just quit running a year ago.

Thank for the manual!

How low is low, mine read .2 /.3 ohm. It kinda had to believe because the key switch said if it on, it should be open for IG & E. With key, my off and on read the same in ohm.

I do see my flywheel is cover with rust, could than cause the short on the ig coil?

Another question, if it's ground when check. How come I get spark for the about 1s when trying to start?

Any one has service manual?

When my 3k has been sitting a while the carb tends to evaporate. If you tilt it forward (plug side), it'll refill the bowl.

Here is service manual with wire diagram.

Black wire to coil is very low resistance so will check almost grounded normally.

I did try spraying starting fluid to the carb throat, but no go.

I was doing continuity test on the stop/start key switch and this is what I found. At first I though I have a bad key switch, because at on the black and green is 0ohm (key to on). After isolating all the connector, I found that my black wire for the ignition coil is grounded.

How can that be bad? can that be repair or clean?

As posted above I do get spark BUT for about 1s, before the oil alert LED flash/blink then no more spark.

Had a similar situation with mine. I kept fiddling with it and it finally started. To get it to fire up, I pulled the plug, added about 1/2 tsp of gas (primed it), put the plug back in and it finally started.
