Finally found out what was wrong...
The first MAF went bad and replaced it with a cheap-er replacement part.
Last mechanic had great test equipment... showed that the replacement part was bad also.
He installed a DELCO - OEM part and it's worked fine since.
I should have bought the OEM part the first time... lesson learned.

BenK - you know how mechanics work. If the MAF they put on is bad, it is in warranty. If they find anything else wrong, I pay way more.
The intake gasket and knock sensors were replaced in October. A different code issue then.
