Do Extended Cabs Come in Long Bed?? Looking for 5er Truck

Redwoodguy

I'm going to be buying a 34' 5th wheel.I've towed TT's with Suburbans, but never a 5er.

So, I begin looking for a used diesel truck, and I see almost exclusively King Cab, or Crew Cab trucks that look like short beds. I see all the advice for towing 5ers says, "Only use long bed."

Do these Crew Cabs come with Long Beds? I sure haven't seen any in the used truck listings.

Any advice appreciated.

if Supercab.. 2 normal doors and 2 short doors..

my 2012 F 250 is a SuperCab Long bed (8'2").. got it used last year...
and was a fleet/lease unit. with cloth seats, cruise, power windows... "XL"
lower end trim. with tow/camper options.. and trailer brake controller.
so it has the F 350 spring pack.(slide-in) camper option).

Ford and Gm both make an extended cab longbed of which the OP was asking about. Not the same as a crewcab.

They are not plentiful and sometimes hard to find. But, yes, we have a Chevy 2500 diesel with an extended cab and 8' bed.

I think the OP was inquiring as to what Ford calls a extended or super cab. Not the full four door crew. Yes, they are available.

For those who can't fathom a CCLB for daily driver - I do it everyday. In one of the most congested, jammed areas I've seen. Northern NJ outside NYC. And yes, I have to think about where I park. The length regularly uses up 1.5 parking spots. I'm so used to it that its strange to drive something smaller now.

It's not about how hard it is to drive but rather the size of parking spots where one works. Sure, I can and do park at the back of the lot at walmart and walk but at work, I stick out into the street already with a Supercab. I don't want another foot and a half.

Yep, lot of us contractor types would like a 10' pickup bed. For the.becca t reason grit dog mentioned. Put a tool box in front part of bed, you still have room for 8' lumber etc.
At 50 lbs a foot for a.pickup bed vs 100-150 for a flatbed, one can still get a rev cab and a 10' box, still have the potential for 2 tons of payload., vs a flatbed would be.under 3000 lbs. Hence why so many.of us that want bigger beds need to go up a chassis.or two to get the payload we need.
My 89 dad 3500 with.a.12' dump bed weigh.close to 8000 lbs. So a whopping 2000 lbs to footlocker 10k gvwr. Hence why.I.Have a Navistar now! Worst pos I ever bought! Also why 45/55 series trucks are popular vs 35s in construction industry from a c&c standpoint.
Yes I know marketing has.changed. BUT, from my.point of view, I tell ALL sales folks when buying a truck, DO NOT SHOW ME a short bed truck. IE anything smaller than 8' 8bugs or less, 15 series grocery.getter, or I.walk out of the place. Pretty simple. Some do not get it tho......
I will go with.a.6' bed in a midget truck, that is a.different beast.

Of course they'd look queer as a $3bill for a while until we re programmed our brains as to what apickup should look like.

Still think I should patent that idea. Actually can't believe one of the mfgs hasn't done that. Reg cab LONG bed on a CCLB chassis = ultimate work truck. Or Ext cab LonG bed.
I can't be the only one annoyed with only having 4-5' of truck bed left after adding a slip tank and a tool box. Construction, service industry and landscapers would be all over this I think.

Disclaimer: I don't use my truck for 5er

I have F-250 Supercab with 8' Bed. I love the full bed for many uses but you need to see one up close instead of ordering. It is a long truck. My kids are almost out of the house and are seldom in the truck anymore so I went for Supercab over crewcab to save 14.5". That means I'm only 20.5' long! When I park it, I'm glad I don't have another foot of truck. It's my daily driver and works where i have to park but it's not for everyone it's a daily driver.

Not wanting to turn this thread into a Marty ROAST, but if he is going to continue being a tow vehicle expert, he'll have to keep up with MODERN terminology. Yes, I'm sure his statement was tongue-in-cheek.

You have obviously moved on with technology, using the internet and forums. It may be time to move on with current automobile standards. 😉 Remember - 8 and 10 speed transmissions, turbo chargers, fuel injection, lots of software code, etc.! It won't be long and your truck will fill itself, drive the dirt where you want it, and dump it. I just hope that JD and CAT are working on autonomous dozers to move it when it is dumped!

Times they are a'changing.

I remember 8' beds being standard too. Now it seems like the makers are calling the 6-1/2' beds "standard". 8' beds are "long" and the 5-1/2" beds are "short".

At least that's what I'm seeing on the GM build & price site.

I'm sure your comment was tongue-in-cheek. 😉
