Funny, I opened the FORD manual for my F350 and lo and behold the Jack Position page shows the jack should be placed on the axel tube next to the U-bolts for the leaf springs.....

Answer: None of them. Theyโ€™ll never stop arguing long enough to actually change the tire!

How many campers does it take to change a tire?

100 minimum, but you need to be a member of RV.net

When Les Schwabs siped my tires on my truck,I had the TC on it..When I came to pick it up,there it sat jacked up on the two passenger side tires, front and rear with a jack stand under both axles...The three passenger side tires were off the ground only supported by the axle housing on both axles close to the hub...When they put the tires back on,they also jacked it up them down by the axle but with a floor jack..

That pic looks more like a ad for jack, not instructions for use. The axle in pic looks like a air braked trailer.

Note to anybody wanting to learn.
The jack is near the outside end of axle, and right under where the load is applied to the axle.
And it is between the U-bolts. The U-bolts will hold the tube in shape.

Funny part is, no where in real life, nor the internet, aside from right here at good ole aRVee.net have I experienced much if any consternation about how to change a tire.

This is like a bad joke.

This thread is more interesting than a hog chasing itโ€™s tail. ๐Ÿ˜„ I do find it interesting that it seems to be opinions vs facts with sources.

I spent a bit of time looking for sources via google but found more opinions. Hereโ€™s one from a tire place for RVs. https://www.lesschwab.com/article/how-to-avoid-or-repair-a-flat-tire-on-your-rv-or-trailer.html Curiously, they didnโ€™t say where to place the bottle jack.

I think any instructions should be for an RV etc. Otherwise, the instructions could be for an unloaded truck. Fyi, I did find one post on Ford Trucks site that said donโ€™t put a bottle jack under the differential.

YMMV.

As usual this thread is like a dog chasing itโ€™s tail . If you know how to rotate your tires , you know how to change a flat . If you donโ€™t you should learn . Rotating tires is a maintenance item , flats are a what if .

most of the cases there is not clear description how the bend happened, it would surprise me if someone come to the internet forum admitting he bend his axle with stupid jack positioning.

Uh huh...

I can guarantee you I have changed more than my share of tires and once did it for a living at Sears auto/tire..Never seen anything like you describe and I come from logging communities where things are treated rough and overloaded to boot..Common sense must be the dividing factor in bending or not bending an axle housing with a bottle jack and being sober helps.I have heard..LOL

Have you bent one or are you relying on the internet to back up your opinion...I want to see one where the axle housing was bent using a bottle jack because that is what we are talking about..

We can argue forever what really happens and what might be a myth, but as I suggested before -contact truck manufacturer if they advise lifting the truck with full load by the axle pipe.
