Typically, we store everything in the pass-through because hitting a shin on the hitch ball is no fun. We have in the past locked it to the trailer tongue for a quick trip in the TV.
One mod this spring will be to add a few welded tabs to the trailer frame to mount the WDH bars when not in use. I get tired of grease contaminating pass-through items.
Here is my solution for storing the spring bars. The hooks can be found in any good hardware store. Drill and tap holes to install. Works great.

The hitch head is also locked to the receiver. With the bars left on the hitch, there's less chance of nailing your shin too.GaryWT wrote:kevden wrote:
I leave the bars attached to our Equalizer hitch and swing them around so they are under the Yukon. The hitch has not been off for about 3 years. Sometimes I will put a plastic bag over the hitch to protect us from the grease, if we need to get stuff out of the rear of the Yukon.
So when you drive around the bars do not swing out and get in the way? No issues with someone taking them? Finally mine have just a plastic clip to hold them in place, do yours as I would be afraid the clip would break in time.
There is enough friction to keep the bars in place, even though I do grease the pivot points. The bars are attached to the hitch head with a metal pin and clip, which could easily be removed if someone wanted to steal it. No problems yet, though. I did put a locking hitch pin on last year.

This thread reminded me of a product I came across a while back. Looks pretty slick. Would really like it for moving the hitch head from shed to truck and back.
