Tear in brand new TT fiberglass, thoughts ?

I have a brand new TT, not even two weeks old. We took a single 4 day trip the day we purchased it. I wen't out today to check on something, and my son noticed two holes at the top of the door area ( pics attached ).

I can't for the life of me figure out what would have caused the holes to protrude OUTWARDS, their is nothing from the inside of the unit to give an indication of what could possibly have caused this.

Dealer said I caused it, thus, won't pay for it. anyone have any ideas, or seen anything like it ?

We had a similar situation on our fiberglass unit. It was a screw that was to long and it had punched a similar hole in the back wall of the unit. We took it into our dealer and they sent it to be fixed and had the screw replaced. Looks great now. Would not know anything had happened.

So a few questions ....

Who is "they" at the dealership? The only person you would want to be talking to at this point is the service manager as that's who will have the authority to decide how to best solve this issue. Secondly, you mentioned in another post that your trailer hasn't even been back to the dealership so the service manager can assess the problem. If that's the case there's really no advantage to posting here on the forum where virtually no one can do anything for you. Seems to me you're putting the horse before the cart here - allow those responsible for dealing with issues like this at least have the opportunity to assess the situation and propose a solution. Finally, whether you paid cash for the unit or not is irrelevant ... you now have your unit and the dealer has been paid, neither of which has anything to do with this issue you're having. Approach this rationally, dealing with just the facts themselves, and at least give this dealer's service manager to inspect the problem and offer a solution. If at the end of that process you're not satisfied then that's the time to kick it up the food chain, first to the management and/or owner of the dealership, and if that doesn't produce any satisfactory resolution then that's the time to contact the manufacturer.

That unit needs to go back to factory for repair. Most logical is roof truss screws driven too far. Roof rafter repair, new roof and new side.

I expect a full replacement for you.

That looks like a Cruiser RV product-is it a Shadow Cruiser?

Ours came from the dealer in Kyle and is there now getting one last warranty issue fixed. Cruiser failed to notify us of the front cap light recall and one of ours caught on fire. Cruiser has covered a front cap repair no questions asked. Our dealer so far has been great to work with and supposedly uses a local fiberglass shop that does high end work.

I say supposedly because I havnt seen the repair yet but it looks good in a pic they sent.

Your warranty doesn't exist with the dealer, it exists with the manufacturer. If the dealer is giving you a hard time already then work with the manufacturer and/or another dealer. I would bring it in sooner than later. Let a dealer evaluate the damage and get their opinion on if the repair can wait or not. They may be able to perform a manufacturer approved quick fix to allow you to go on your trip and do the permanent fix later.

I would contact the manufacturer and send the pictures. then if you don't get any satisfaction maybe it is time to contact a lawyer.

All of the manufacturers are putting out absolute junk today and maybe it is time for us consumers to talk to lawyers.

We have a brand new Forest River, that I picked up in October and thank goodness the dealer is only two miles away. You would shudder if I posted a list of everything that has gone wrong.
The tech was out again yesterday tearing out all the wet insulation from the fifth broken pipe connection. Each time he comes out, he has to take pictures and send them to Forest River, and each time they want him to do a quick fix and ignore the fact that another fitting will probably come apart.

May be It is time for a list of the manufacturers that are making high end RV's with no problems and ones that are having continuous problems so newbies can be aware of which ones to look at and which ones to stay away from.

that would be my guess also, but the OP said the dealer hadn't seen it yet??

I feel for you that's for sure. Stick to your guns. The way that's torn, in the location it's torn, there's no way you could have caused that damage short of putting a dish though the wall in that cabinet (kidding)..

You spend your hard earned money on a new rig and it's damaged already.

Then to get a reaction from your dealer like that is total BS. I just don't understand the business practices of some organizations.

Good luck i hope they make it right for you. That sure appears to be a construction defect to me.

I suspect some form of lighting / cabling holders were pulled out for whatever reason. Its probably "unlucky" that you didn't notice them before you took it away from the dealer... probably because the roller hid things a bit. Nice dealer to not handle this properly.

The dealer took a picture with me and my wife in front of the camper on delivery. I also took pics with the kids throughout our trip. I went back and looked at all the pics, the holes didn't appear until the last day of our trip, after hauling it to storage. I'm heading back to storage in the morning to see if I can get better pics from inside the panel and / or the cabinets.

For those that mentioned being livid, I'm more than that. We paid 28k, in cash. I understand financing or cash you're still spending the money, but those of you that paid cash might understand the difference lol... it's extremely -extremely- disappointing.

The dealer hasn't actually put eyes on it yet so I don't want to say who they are on the offchance they decide to cover it.

Nothing I did could have possibly caused the thing to tear like this from the inside out. When I have more pics in the am I'll gladly share. I'm fine with putting tape over it and sealing it up for now. But the fiber glass has a hole in it. It will be an expensive repair regardless of how shady it's done, fiberglass work isn't cheap, I fully intend to have it look exactly as it did when I purchased it .

I agree with this statement. I thought the same thing when I saw your pics. Like said elsewhere, cover with a high quality tape and get it fixed later. Good luck.

looks like one of the Amish guys that gets paid by the piecework used a couple screws that were a bit too long for the cabinets. Must have been produced on a friday at 4:55pm
