There is a RV park with full hookups at the Taylor Park Trading Post and there is also a place to rent ATVs/SxSs where you can ride directly to trails without having to trailer somewhere. If this place is of interest, you best get reservations early for both the RV park and SxS rental.
Be prepared for high altitude if you go there. There are many, many trails out there to legally take an ATV/SxS and many trails that go up to 12,000 ft with incredible views. Also be prepared for rain and cold as you never know when the weather can turn, even in the summer.

Looking to take a family trip next summer to Colorado.
We would like somewhere in the mountains, with excellent views.
If possible the park would have 50amp service, not absolutely needed, but full hookups if possible.
Once again full hookups are not a must, but with a family of four its nice.
We would like somewhere that we can rent side by sides and travel over some passes.
We have considered the Durango\Silverton area for the train.
We are open to any and all ideas.
Thanks in advance
My suggestion is Buena Vista and the Collegiates - with a day trip across Independence Pass (RT 82) to Aspen and Maroon Bells. Possible a trip to Minturn Vail or Breckenridge just to get some civilization into the trip. Leadville Red Cliff - and Salida are all available for a dinner out If K's and Quincy's don't work.
With this as the destination - you can pick from a number of RV parks to suit you needs - I've always just gone to see a location not an RV park, so I keep no records of those.
Now what else do you enjoy - in the area - we have Lakes - Streams - 4X4 trails - Hikes - Fishing- and some of the most Beautiful drives in Colorado.
How long do we have to play?
Would a drive over to Ouray/Telluride/Silverton for a couple days possible be in the Cards?
Might just be great to scout out future trips.
Best of Luck,
On Edit - Might just stop by Great Sand Dunes National Park on the way to.
X2 Thanks for posting. Saved me the time. BV is a great place to live and play. We hike, raft, four wheel, ATV, etc. That is why we move here!

I agree that, for a good overview of Colorado, choose the Upper Arkansas River Valley area of Salida/Buena Vista/Leadville. Many good places to set up a base camp and then explore outward from that base camp. The Collegiate Range of mountains is a formidable collection of 14'ers, with magnificent views from anywhere in the valley. And lots of trails and roads to explore. Day trip to the San Luis Valley? Easy. Want to head to places like Glenwood Springs? Done. Aspen? Just a trip over one of the highest passes in Colorado with views that are unbelievable. If you're getting brouchures in the mail, start with those that are within driving distance of this wonderful area for a base camp. You won't regret it.

My suggestion, if it is possible, is to split your time between Buena Vista and Ouray. We were to both again this last summer / fall and have made reservations for next summer / fall.
Not sure how much time you have so will not go into detail.
CO is the most beautiful state in the nation.
Feel free to email or P M me if you would like.

The Cumbres & Toltec steam railroad (Antonito, CO to Chama, NM) is also a great train ride.

My suggestion, go to their web site and explore it. Then order the free literature and sit back in your comfy recliner and enjoy reading one rainy night, or several rainy nights!
