Amazed and Disgusted

I've been in this park many times over the past 20 years, and never have I seen such behavior. In the past three days, I've watched folks dump fish cooker oil in a fire pit, not at their site, but in the vacant site next to them. Another guy washed his rig at his site, and yet another washed at a dump station. Another couple routinely walk through others camp sites. The final straw is when a "lady" walked her dog into my site to let him do his business. She was startled when I said something, apparently not having seen me sitting outside. But to her husband's credit, he came over and begrudgingly picked it up. Okay, rant over! It's beer time.
Times fun when you're having flies!

Dog areas in campgrounds is not usually just for them to poop and pee in.... Those dog areas are for dogs to play and socialize. But attended by heir owners!
People need to PICK UP after their dogs!!! To not do so is rude and lazy. Very unsanitary to leave it on the ground for someone to step in!

Sounds more like regional stuff. Oregon St parks are for the most part fairly well patrolled by hosts and at least in the ones we've stayed in are very orderly.
This would seem like the stuff you'd see at forest service CGs. Not a lot of baby sitting going on in the ones we stay at.
Can't think of any private parks in Oregon. Most so called private parks would be akin to an RV park I guess.
I've seen some odd ball things happen but never that much in one trip.

How far into the campsite are we talking, less than 5 feet along the road? Or actually walking into the site and letting the dog go in the outside living area? Sometimes when walking along the road a dog will just stop to go, can't help that and if it's in reasonable distance to the road I don't worry about it, both as a dog walker and camper, as long as I/they pick it up. Now if it is "in" the campsite, that's a problem!

100 percent agree!!
Even if the park has a doggie do-do area, sometimes the call just comes a bit too soon. Along the edge of the road way is basically common area.

Once again, if the owner doesn't pick up after the dog, that is a different story!!! :M

I hope that this post wasn't serious. Fear of dogs? I love dogs and in my earlier years raised them. I still don't want them crapping in my space!

We find that rarely do folks use the 6-foot leash rule. They extend that leash out 20 feet into campsites.

We love to see when owners walk their dog and that dog walks right along side them. They get to an unoccupied area and that's when the dog relieves himself. They pick it up and move along, disposing of it properly. Dogs can easily be trained this way.

Also - kids walking dogs. They don't, as a rule, pick it up.We have asked many to pick it up and they're shocked. What? Actually pick it up? They don't even carry a bag. That's just a cop-out for parents to not have to do it.

Drunks and loud music is much more annoying than dogs. NASCAR devotees seem to believe all in CG want to hear their noise and watch them get drunk and puke.

That dog taking a dump in your site would really get me going! She would have been sorry for doing that. What an idiot!

What would you have done? Shouting and having a childish fit would resolve nothing had it been my wife and dog I would have gladly had the discussion with you. They picked up the waste no damage done. You only occupy the space it does not belong to you it is tenants in common.

I agree. It's a bit off-topic, but a few months ago, I witnessed 4 men in their late teens walk into the McDonald's where Ed and I, and another man and his elementary-age son, were eating. Three of the 4 guys were teasing #4 about something, and as the situation excalated, #4 got VERY angry and things were loudly said and laced with expletives. Finally, the dad stood up and said in a firm-but-fatherly voice "Hey guys - there are children and ladies here. Please watch your language"

The 4 guys calmed down - but as they picked up their to-go orders, every one of them walked past the father, and sincerely apologized to him and shook his hand. It warmed my heart to know that there are still parents raising their kids to have manners.

If you did, you would experience what the OP is saying and would probably be complaining too.

I experienced the same stuff everybody else did, believe me. But I learned that complaining to people in the same boat is preaching to the choir. And I've also learned that doing so does NOTHING to alleviate the issue so I've learned to take a different tactic. I'm applying that approach to as much in life as I can. Had a bunch of run-ins with questionable real estate agents recently but after the first complaint or two decided it was easier to ignore it and just move on. Some on this forum absolutely DELIGHT in complaining, judging, and abasing others and treat it like it's an art form. LIGHTEN UP. Life's too short. You have to decide if the pleasure outweighs the pain. If it does, then ignore the bad stuff. If it doesn't, time to move on. Complain all you want on here if it makes you feel better but remember it won't change anything.
Very good post, hope these people don't every have a real problem. Cancer or health issues will make those problems pale in comparison.

If I have a issue with a person I go talk to them, not complain about it to people that can't do anything about it.

It all has to do with education from very young age or lack of it..
Was visiting Japan while back and the cleanliness of the streets and buses even subway trains was just mind blowing, not to mention the politeness of all peoples..

The dog thing would be annoying. Washing the rig wouldn't as long as the rules didn't forbid it.

X2 That was I was thinking.

Now, if the guy washing his rig at the dump station was keeping people from dumping then that is a different deal ! But, you did not say that in your original post.

And, the fish cooker oil is all vegetable. It won't hurt anything as far as I know. But, I don't have a fish cooker ? Not even completely sure what one is. A deep fat fryer ????
