I pulled my RV up to the diesel pump in front on Goober's Repair Shop at the Flying J Plaza (all of the other pumps were in use). Immediately one of the employees ran over and told me that one of my tires was badly worn and noticeably bulging, and needed immediate replacement. He repeately ran his hand over the outside of the inner tire (which of course is very difficult to see) shaking his head. "If you're going any distance, that tire just isn't safe," he assure me. Of course they just happened to have a "value" replacement tire that they'd sell me.
Hmm. Interesting, since I'd just had those same tires inspected by a Tire Factory dealer that I've used for several years, and was assured that all of my tires were in great shape.
When my wife asked a second employee of Goober's if he wasn't just trying to scam a couple of "Greenies", both of them just disappeared back into the shop.
Based on my experience with these jerks (and several other reviewers in past forums), I strongly discourage anyone from dealing with this repair shop.
I see where Goober is a NAPA Service Center. Perhaps NAPA would like to hear about The Goober and Co. scams. They would probably disassociate themselves from Goober if they haven't already.
If this has happened to any of you since 18-May-2015, you need to contact the Utah Department of Transportation. They are looking for comments, and if they get enough indicating that the practice still continues, they might revoke the "public/private partnership rest stop" status of these stations.
The last time we pulled into Flying J at Scipio we were following a snow plow truck with his blade down, in the dark. No one ran out of the tire shop to feel our tires :). Certain advantages to travel in the "off season..." ๐
Yup, they tried the same thing with my trailer tires. Even followed me to the parking lot after I fueled up to show me, but then I had "dirt" on the tires and it was "hard to see". Funny thing is 6000 miles later they don't even look that bad. Had another about 100 miles east of there on the return trip where they told me they could hear my trailer brakes dragging and when I touched the wheel in front of them and told them it wasn't hot, they found something else to do. I knew as I had checked them about 5 min before they showed up. One thing I always try to do is when I put the truck in park, I do a walk around and check each tire and wheel for temp and then go back and turn off the truck and do what ever I stopped for. It helps when dealing with people like Goober
