Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Another member suggested a new forum section with new products but it doesn't look like it will be feasible. So I thought I would post this here under General RVing Issues. If enough people post (even if you have mentioned it before in another post) we can keep it near the top?

Do you have a handy hint, a new product or an old product that makes your RVing or Camping much better?

(Sorry, no commercial advertising allowed)

I'll start:

Someone in the Camping Van posted a reference to using a Super-Chamois to wipe down their shower. I have been using an icky old thick sponge and I like the chamois idea so much more.

Now I want to hear what works for you

I like that idea. An emergency contact (other than the CG) can also be on the card.

I use one of those plastic shower caps to cover my smoke detector when it goes off while I am cooking. I taped some plastic colored caution tape as streamers to the center of the outside of the cap. About 3 or 4 feet will be long enough to dangle and catch your eye. It's there to remind me to take the shower cap off when I am done cooking.

I hate to run the overhead fan on the RV stove, it just makes too much noise, so I now run our fantastic fan while I am cooking. So much quieter and the smoke detector doesn't go off as often now either!
It doesn't matter where you go in life.........it's who you have beside you :B

Thanks for the tips on little harmless things to do to bring laughs to everyone. Great things to get to meet people in your campgrounds and laughter is the spice of life.

We stop at casinos as part of our retirement and we save those bungee cords they give you for your player's cards. We use the cords for many things like to hold a coiled hoses together or even our awning lights. They are also good for keeping ext. cords in their spots when running up the awning or along the trailer.

I bought a metal shoe rack at Big Lots last week for 10$. It has 4 shelves and I placed it at the end of the picnic table with little baskets full of plastic silver ware, paper plates, napkins, salt & pepper, and some empty baskets for all the odds & ends that end up on the picnic table. It was nice to have everything right there and still have a clear table to eat off of. While traveling it fits right beside the bed and doesn't take up much space and when you set up camp just take it outside. It worked great. Wish I had taken a picture but I didn't I was having to much fun.

Our Motorhome has a carpet like covering on the walls and ceiling. Velcro sticks to it easily. I have made several little fabric pockets that stick to the walls in handy places. One holds pens and pencils always handy, one holds my ear plugs that can be reached without getting out of bed. I'm sure double faced tape would serve the same purpose on hard surfaced walls.

Cool. I think you could call it "carpet" that lines my T@B ceiling. You've given me some ideas.

My sentiments exactly!
of course some complainer will jump in here and correct you on saying travel trailer rather than saying RV since all kinds of RVers frequent this board ๐Ÿ™‚
Been corrected a time or two myself, around here, for not using the correct terminology. This is how I know.

A pox on nitpickers.

We do seem to be running low on hints lately.... Our Motorhome has a carpet like covering on the walls and ceiling. Velcro sticks to it easily. W/ being new the TT scene, I'm probably watching this thread more than I'm contributing to it. That being said after what I found on my TT yesterday, I figured I post the headsup about the grease fittings.

I heard that revrnd!! I do too, but I just have to remind myself that practically every message board that exists has it's "trolls." You know those that post stuff just trying to instigate arguments. Best just to realize them for what they are, let them post their meaningless drivel and move to the good stuff. And they can say whatever they want, but that is a handy tip if there ever was one...if I may say so myself...

Modern technology is great. I have some solar spot lights that use LED's that I shine on my flags and they stay lit all night. They only have 3 LED's and a 2 AA sized battery pack though. I also have some 5 year old sidewalk lights that won't stay lit through even the shortest of nights and they have a pack the size of 3 AA batteries.

The things that come to those that wait will be the junky stuff left by those that got there 1st.

Remember; never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
