For those that can't be bothered to read the original post...
How do you AVOID bad areas. Not how do you LEAVE bad areas... how do you AVOID going into them in the first place.

In martial arts they teach you the 5 steps. Roughly translated here
1) control the situation
2) defuse the situation
3) defend yourself
4) apply force
5) apply deadly force.
I worry much more about someone who just because they have a gun, jumps from step 1 to 5. Seems to happen on a regular basis.
To often what should have been a shouting match, or at the very most a fist fight,. turns into someone dead. And the shooter having to live with that for the rest of his or her life.
It's not the guns so much as it is the person that has one. Guns allow you to kill from a distance. People are mad at something else waiting for one little insult, then they apply deadly force.
I worry more about some "crazy" in CG than a bad area of town

All I can tell you all is if you are planning to go to Tom Sawyer's CG, which I might add IS a great place to go to park on the great Mississippi...........but:
Do NOT use your GPS directions! USE the CG directions.
I went in as a newbie Full Timer using my GPS, MH towing AND could NOT turn around when I found myself in one of the worst areas of town. Gang members stepping in front of and coming up to the MH while I tried to make my way thru. :E
I went thru each and every stop sign 'praying' I would meet up with a cop! And yes, once I made that second turn in, 'visually' I KNEW I had done bad.
That was the day I started researching all my destinations before heading out! :C
