Two weeks to go until the big day! Retired USN 21 years of active duty and 4 years of active reserve (reserve time was when I was going to college). 10+ years of NJROTC Instructor (Georgia teacher retirement) and I turn 62 in July, Social Security also. Work longer and get more social Security, no way. My wife and I are ready to go camping!

It all depends on cash flow, I don't necessarily need to get the total max I can out of SS, I do want to get the highest monthly checks when I really needed it, like an annuity that I have already paid for that grows by 8% a year till I need to start using it.

That and living into late 80s and 90s run on both my side and my wifes.

The break even is about 77. Then waiting till full retirement age wins. But if you go to 70 then it would be in the 80s. Lots go into this decision like spouses age an SS and health etc.

Remember to pack your DD-214. It will get you into the family camps available at many bases. They are often in really nice places.

Congrats on your retirement and thank you for your service to our country. I've been retired 4 years. I was in line at a grocery store once and a lady who only had a few items and 4 kids was behind me. I told her to go ahead of me. She thanked me and I told her ever since I retired I'm never in a hurry any more :).
