Best Fuel Preservative for Pure Gas ???

Son_of_Norway

I buy pure (no ethanol) gasoline that I keep on hand in a couple of 5-gallon cans for snow blowers, lawn mowers, power washers, portable generators etc. The STABIL products that I buy indicate their use for alcohol-blended fuels. Are there any fuel preservatives specifically for pure gasoline and which one would you recommend? Thanks for your help.

I am curious why some run premium when their small engines only require regular gas?

Simple. Most premium fuel is also ethanol free gasoline.

In bigger engines the benefits go far beyond not having gummed up carbโ€™s, the net cost per mile is lower running premium gas than regular gas.

The increased fuel mileage exceeds the increased cost per gallon.

Someone smarter than me can please explain the above is simply not true.

They, whoever they are claim that non ethanol gas has a 1 year shelf life, so I need no stabilizer. Since I started using non ethanol all my small engine carburetor problems have ceased.

For my Honda 2000 I run it on what is available when traveling and the last tank is always non ethanol. I do try to run things dry when putting away, bud does not work that way in real life.

Non ethanol is common here in Fl so I buy in small quantities, a 2 gallon can never sits for more than about 4 months.

I think most have no availability or no clue what truly "NON" ethanol gas is!

Buy mine at CENEX a local Farm CO-OP.

In Ontario, most petro stations don't have ethanol in their premium. You are right though, the non ethanol is the key. I just prefer premium because Im sure the higher octane helps when sitting as well. For all the gas I use in my lawn mower, chain saw, and weed eater, its no big deal. My boat has a 70 gallon tank. I will run regular for most of the season, then switch to non ethanol for the last two or three tanks at the end of the season. I add stabil for the last trip as well.

Gasoline will store very well in sealed containers. Gasohol (ethanol blend at the pump) stores reasonably well in sealed containers, or a closed fuel injected system, but not worth the risk. The trouble comes from air with water vapour getting to the gasohol like in a carburetor system.

If you have a small engine that absolutely must start when you need it - your cold weather emergency generator, the jaws of life pump on your fire truck or that dam chain saw or weed whacker - you can use synthetic gas like Aspen gas which has a 7 or so year shelf life. It is available straight or premixed for 2 cycles. It is safe in all engines. . It is not cheep.

This is the way to go. And I use Seafoam or stabil to neutralize any moisture or condensation my gas can may aquire. I never drain or run dry any of my small engines.

I pump a lot of 100LL this time of year into 5 gallon containers. Just a warning; if you have a Honda engine, it's ok to use 100LL to store it, but don't run more that a tankful through the engine. The valve clearance on Hondas is tight enough so you'll get lead buildup and a stuck valve.
