Fridge on when parked at home

My DW wants to used the fridge in our camper as a 2nd fridge when we are not camping. We keep hooked to shore power and park the camper in our drive. Does anyone use their camper fridge like this?

Nope... ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

Also, my RV fridge is a Dometic that had the recall notice on it, but I didn't do the recall because it didn't fix the issue.. Just made it so that when the pipe breaks, it diverts the leaking liquid away from the flame, but also caused the fridge to not work as well...

So, I just don't use it on electric anymore and that's what works for me..

Good luck!

Mitch.........the recall added another temp sensor that shuts down all 12V DC power should a high temp event occur
The high temp event could happen whether on electric or propane
No 12V DC---no fridge operation

Should a leak occur......no fridge cooling BUT electric or propane could still function which could cause major overheating and possible fire.
That is what the recall was meant to prevent.

And it has no effect on how well fridge cools.......good or bad.

Doesn't 'FIX' initial issue....but short of complete replacement of cooling unit with thicker tubing/better welding recall is better than not having it done.

OP.......

We turned our DOMETIC (with the recall) ON in Nov. 2006 and it has rarely been OFF since.
Runs on electric when at CG w/power
Runs on propane while in transit or when no power is available
Parked in driveway ON electric right now. Only thing we need to do is put the perishables in for next trip.

Our converter is 3 stage charger so batteries are not abused.....but our inverter has a 3 stage charger that does a better job so it is in service
Is it time for your medication or mine?

If it is level an you need it why not?

If it is going to sit for more than a few days, we bring the food into the house.

Ours we ice up once in a while but is easiest to remove the food, wipe it down and crack the door so it does not mold.

A day or before we leave we turn it back on.

X2 We leave canned drinks in the fridge. When we want to take off camping, we throw in some perishables and hit the road.

Nope... ๐Ÿ˜‰ I've got my beer fridge in the garage that is not a full size kitchen fridge, but a lot bigger than my 2 door RV fridge.. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I don't want to go out to my trailer to get stuff out of the fridge when I can go into my garage.. Besides, I cover my trailer during the winter, so it's not an option anyway..

But, if it works for you, that's great and that's all that counts.

Also, my RV fridge is a Dometic that had the recall notice on it, but I didn't do the recall because it didn't fix the issue.. Just made it so that when the pipe breaks, it diverts the leaking liquid away from the flame, but also caused the fridge to not work as well...

I'm sure you mean "converter", not inverter ... regardless, hardly a reason to not run your fridge 24 / 7 if doing so serves a useful purpose for you. Personally, I don't but it has nothing to do with the longevity of the fridge or converter but simply because I'd rather avoid the cost of running the fridge continuously when in our case we have no need for it. However, if running the fridge continuously while the trailer is parked at your home presumes you're running it on 120 vac rather than gas (which logically you would) raises a much greater concern in my mind ... power stability. Unfortunately the reality is that only a small percentage of RV owners properly protect their rigs against power line anomalies, particularly surges, spikes, and especially low voltage, with a surge protector / EMS of one flavour or another. Not doing so is IMO a huge mistake, one that could eventually prove costly ... and hardly worth the risk simply because you want to run the fridge 24 / 7. I have equipped my own trailer with a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C and wouldn't ever consider plugging in anywhere without it, even at home. Food for thought. ๐Ÿ˜‰

No problem! I've done it for years with every rig I've owned and find it's a good place for a cold beverage when I'm out working around my place.
