Furnace runs with dial set to OFF?

New 2016 Palomino Back Pack Edition TC.

Wall thermostat set to the OFF position. Out side ambient temperature at 32F.

Plugged into shore power.

Walked by outside of camper and heard furnace running. Went inside and verified thermostat set to off and found furnace running normally like it would if I had the stat set to 70F.

Is it normal for a furnace to run while thermostat set to the off position?

What to do to correct problem?

Did you pull the grate off the furnace unit? That is where my separate off switch was.

This one caught has caught us more than once. You would think we would have learned. :R

I probably should had explained better. I tried to keep it simple.

I had stored the TC in about 50F weather and left it plugged into shore power as I planned to use it a couple more times hunting in the fall. Furnace was off and not running.

Several weeks later, the temperature was around 32F when I happened to walk by TC and heard furnace running. Went inside and noticed thermostat all the way to the left in the OFF position.

I called dealer and they told me to look for a separated OFF switch on thermostat or on front panel of furnace unit. None was found in either place.

Called dealer again and was told to bring thermostat in and they would replace it. Hopefully with a better one!

In the mean time I have added an inline switch between one of the thermostat wires. Does not look too pretty, but it is functional.

Currently, when the switch I added is in off position, the furnace is OFF. No more using up all my LPG if I am not even in the camper to enjoy the heat!:W

Again, RV.net folks have come through with some well thought out suggestions.

Thank you all.

Fan running.......just fan (not heating)

Thermostat not actually OFF........might have to really 'push' lever to off position

Other possibles:
Bad t-stat
Bad wires from t-stat to furnace
Bad 'blower timer' (timed delay relay is a stand alone part/blower timer is part of circuit board)
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Both of my last two trailers were when the dial was set to off it still ran for approximately 3-5 minutes blowing hot air till it came down a few degrees then it shut off and stayed off.

Just to clarify, when you say "off" is there a separate On/Off switch or is it just the temperature setting down to an "Off" label on the gauge? Mine has a separate On/Off switch and in Off it will not run. It will, however, keep running until cooled if turned off while the furnace is running. This tells me it's not an actual power switch but a soft off the furnace can ignore in certain circumstances. Perhaps a little contact cleaner (available at Lowes or Home Depot). Be careful though as contact cleaner can attack some plastics. Test it on a hidden piece of the thermostat to be sure.

We have a thermostat acting up,in off position it sometimes turns on. Electrical contact cleaner may help im told,if not will be changing it.

If it's like the thermostat on my 2000 version, "off" means 45 degrees. When it goes below 45 degrees, the furnace runs.

My furnace has an on-off switch on the front of the unit underneath the grate. I simply turn the furnace off there.

I agree on your BRAND NEW camper, which surely is still under warranty, you should be able to get advice from Palomino and/or a free repair at the RV dealership, if indeed there is a problem.

Yes it can keep running after the thermostat has been turned off as 425 mentioned till air flow over the heat exchanger cools to a certain temp.
Now if it keeps running and blowing cold air take your 2016 trailer back to a dealer

Most thermostats have an off switch independent of the temperature control. Picture of your thermostat would help.

Furnace should not be running if your thermostat is set to "off" - might be time to replace the thermostat - not expensive easy DIY.
