How do you feel about those dashboard placards

At most campgrounds they give you a couple of tags to put on your dashboards with your name, site number and checkout date on it. I'm guessing the reason for this is so that the campground management can quickly go around and see if any extra vehicles are parked where they shouldn't be.

My wife has a problem with this. She doesn't like our full name and checkout date listed on our dashboard for the world to see. She says it's a privacy issue. So she leaves the placard on the dash but turns it upside down. To date, no one has ever said a word about this.

What do you guys do with that tag?

so true! I see guys posting their HAM call signs in their signatures all the time. one google search and it will lead to their home address
etc... "73s"

That is why I have a P.O. Box as my Ham Radio License address.

Have never seen one with a name - site number and check out only. However, I could care less and park security should know who is on site.

Well ... Ductape, starting with a capital and underlined, might just be unusual enough so as to be able to zero in on more easily than you think. ๐Ÿ˜‰

At Georgia state park now. Card with last name and checkout date for site post and parking hang tag with just date for car. Been that way long as I can recall.

Privacy issue? Really? Your wife would flip out if she knew what Google has on her...

That's probably true if one uses an "iWhatever" to browse the Internet ... but may not be the case for old school types that use a non-Apple computer to browse the Internet.

With a non-Apple computer you can have these things turned on to keep you private:

- Delete Browsing History on exit

- InPrivate Browsing

- Active X Filtering

- Tracking Protection (several simultaneous software programs)

- Pop-up Blocker

- SmartScreen Filter

- Shut down and restart the browser immediately after each single critical use (involving personal records) and at the end of each non-critical general browsing sesson.

- Either turn the computer completely off each night and when away or disconnect if from the Internet each night and when away.

- Top-notch and always-current virus program on the computer.

- Make sure your email service provide has in place screening software to stop suspicious emails from ever reaching your computer, and notifies you whenever it blocks one.

I utilize most all of the above all the time whenever using my non-Apple computer on the Internet. It eventually becomes second nature to use a computer this way and is not as involved as it sounds.

As for our name on a window tag at a campground - the security exposure from this pales in comparison to improper protection when on the Internet.

I don't mind leaving them up when I am in the campground, but I do pull them down when sightseeing so someone does not know which campground is untended. That is less of a problem now that we sightsee in our motorhome, but was an issue when we left a trailer at the campsite.

We do the same and for the same reasons.

There is lots of pictures etc. about holstein13. A name on a card is nothing.

I wonder how some people would react if they had been alive back when your vehicle registration was required by law to be displayed in a clear holder wrapped around the steering column or on the visor?
I remember it well. Nobody ever had any problems with it.
Of course, it IS a "different world" these days. NOT necessarily a better one, either!
