Is it okay to drop my tip out beds at rest stops or Walmart?

I'll be traveling to Florida from MO soon. I figure I'll have to stop for one night at a rest stop or Walmart. The beds in my toy hauler are queen tip-outs one on each side of the rig. I've never overnighted before except in campgrounds, so not sure of the proper etiquette. I would leave the bike inside and drop one of the queen tip-outs to sleep on. Just not sure if that is okay to do or not? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

ASK where you plan to stop and go with what they say! With your "tent" type walls you may find it very noisy!

I cant believe people think it's bad if I fertilize the trees with my black waste. It's all natural with no holding tank chemicals.

I agree with asking the management before doing it. It's not a right to park on theri property and spend the night. It's a courtesy that is extended. Give them the courtesy and ask them first. Give the other thousands of people the courtesy to follow unwritten guidelines and not to ruin it with your self imposed "I can do what I want" rules, so that it will not be ruined for others.

While 99% of people know that people are sleeping in an RV overnight if sitting in a Walmart parking lot, try to make it inconspicuous as possible. If you can sleep in it without popping out beds (extensions) then that would probablty look better. Is there a sofa to sleep on? Sometiems people can do that. Not everyone can do that.

Just remember to think about others and imposement it could have. It's not all about you. (not speaking directly to the OP).

I put out 1 slide to get to the bed but in was curb side it was over a grassy area in the parking lot. I didn't have any problem 1 night only.

Interesting that the "Walmart Rules" posted here may allow RV "parking". Doesn't say a thing about "camping". I think that many of the posts here are to discourage setting up camp in the Walmart parking lots. We all would like to be able to stop and catch some zzzzzz's if we had no other choice, and I for one only hope that walmart doesn't change their policy when RVers take advantage of the hospitality and set up camp just to avoid paying for a stay at a nearby park.

We travel all over the United States and Canada and have never seen the need to park anywhere but in a campground. I wondered if campgrounds are intimidating to some or if they are just saving a buck or two. Some of the campgrounds are not the best, but they all have hookups of some sort and it is much quieter than parking lots, rest areas and fuel stations.

One thing to keep in mind is that in Florida, many Wally worlds do not allow overnighting. Plan ahead. If you use the Allstays app, is shows where the Walmarts are ok with boondocking. Last trip, I ended up staying in a hospital parking lot because there was no Wallycamping within a hundred miles on my route.

It's funny how so many walmart "rules" aren't walmart's, but rather a self-imposed list of behaviors that apply to no one other than the person typing at the moment. I wouldn't hesitate to do what you're asking about.

I also dont know why some think they need to be the anti slide nazi. Makes me think of Cramers soup nazi. If you go to Walmart park off to the side and put the tip out over the lawn or park near the end of a row and put the tip out on that side. I often walk around and pick up any trash near my rig and also go in to buy stuff. Check on the states that you will pass through as some rest areas do allow you to over night but I wouldn't put the tip in another lane. Be sure you are overhanging lawn or end of a row obviously.

This. Obviously, you don't want your bed sticking out where some half blind fool can run into it!
By definition, a "rest area" is a place to stop and get some REST for SAFETY reasons! In many states, when it is posted "NO CAMPING" the intent was to stop people from setting up tents on the lawn. Some areas restrict parking to 8 hours. When commercial drivers run out of time, they MUST stop for the required period. That, too, is what rest areas are for.

Here is the Walmart website FAQ;

Can I park my RV at a Walmart store?

While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store parking lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV.

Follow Walmart's guideline and ignore what anyone on here or elsewhere claims. Only Walmart controls Walmart's property. I really tire of all the self proclaimed Walmart parking police making up their own rules and imposing those rules on others.

Our old HTT had 3 fold out beds. When we stopped at a Walmart for the night, the only one we used was the front bed. It could be folded down while still hooked up to the Tow Vehicle, so it didn't take up any extra room. We never used the side or back bed while at a Wal-Mart/Flying J. The side bed, definitely not. The back bed we might have if we really needed it, but we never did.

I plan on travelling and overnighting enroute to our Coaster Club Meets, and opening up the bed is our only option.

If whatever Walmart you are at allows overnighting, then putting out the beds would be fine. Your camper is a hybrid with a different setup than "normal". Looks like a pretty good toyhauler!
