My travel trailer is beyond repair and I need to get rid of it. I don't want to try and sell it on Craig,s List or ebay or what ever.I'd like to tow it somewhere for recycle or whatever. The trailer does have a state title. I want to stop paying the personal property tax on it.

I recently followed this exact advice on behalf of a friend who owns a business. Somebody had abandoned a boat in his yard. It sat with flat tires and exposed to the elements for 3 years. Put it in the Free section of CL and it was gone in two days. Title was never a consideration.

Post back what you decide to do!

If I was closer, I would be glad to take it off your hands. I would even be willing to pay $50 for it.
I would not care about the title, because when I got done with it, I would have a new Montana title for a 2017 home-built flatbed trailer!

Been there, done this. Then sold it.

I plan on scrapping an 18 foot Shasta this fall. I want to save the AC, 4 burner oven, furnace, grey tank, fresh water tank & water heater. I checked with city of Hampton and asked about scrapping it. Apparently as long as I provide pictures of my cutting it up that should be okay to remove it from the yearly city registration and fee of 20 dollars. They dropped the tax on RV's after dropping the boat tax a few years ago but are looking at going back to taxing RV's again, so not an issue at this time. I'll haul the frame to a local scrap yard in my utility trailer after cutting it up. I just need to check with DMV to see how to handle the state registration when I turn in the plates.

Yep. Someone will tow it to the woods for a hunting cabin.

On taxes. In NC they now collect the taxes when registration is paid. I have a boat trailer that I do not use on the road, and do not register, as I have a ramp next to the house. I never get a tax bill for it. So in NC ( yours is likely different ) you could probably turn in your tags to DMV, and as long as you don't register it with dmv no PP tax bill would be issued.

After our old TT got wrecked I stripped it down to a utility trailer as others have recommended.
I learned a lot and sold it for $600. Gave the AC to a friend, sold the fridge, and kept the fresh water tank.
NC also busts us on property tax, so make sure you can prove you no longer have it.

I've seen some old beater mobile homes in the construction debris section of our landfill, so I am guessing they would take it for a fee. ( ours charges by the pound ) Might check in your area.

I'd try CL first. Probably be gone quick. I paid 200.00 for a old early 70's TT once and we used it for a hunting camp for years. As someone said if frame is good you could make a utility trailer.

PLEASE, donate it to charity.

IMHO the ONLY legitimate charity that I will donate to.
They will arrange for pick up.

If it can't be towed any longer you will need to find a scrap dealer to turn it over to. There are a couple over in Chesapeake near the Gilmerton bridge. There are quite a few folks that haul stuff into them, a phone call should get you a name or two of people with lowboys that would take it. If you can tow it just take it there with the title.

Try to get some form of documentation from them to turn into the DMV showing that you no longer have it or Va. Bch will try to tax you into perpetuity.

Please dont give it to any charity if it has no monetary value.
They'll just end up paying to dispose of it.

I would advertise it for free on craigslist. Someone may take it for hunting or just for the running gear.
