We are fulltimers beginning our 14th year this month. We move around frequently rather than claiming FT status because we sit in one spot in an RV

We have repeatedly noticed the following phenomena:

We are currently in an 850 site park in southern CA in the mountains. It is one of our favorite places ever, not least of because at this time of year, it's very lightly used. The views and the wildlife are magnificent. At this writing, only about 80 of those sites are occupied. Which brings me to my query.

We deliberately park as far away from others as we can in public venues. We're friendly but not social.

Last night a rig came in and parked about 1,000' from us. No barking dog. All is well. Today another rig came in and parked next to them. I had to ask, only in passing. They did not know those people and were unhappy as to the encroachment. Again, in the section that they selected, there were at least 50 available sites.

Can someone explain to me why someone would do that?

what happens when full timing evidently is that you run out of things to complain about rather easily ๐Ÿ˜„

How about you folks move? I get your original complaint and agree it can be irritating but it seems from the above comment and a few of your other replies that you are not people friendly. There is nothing wrong with that but being as it is your RV is very capable of moving to a different spot. Alternatively you could rent out all the adjacent spots within an acceptable radius. Or you could just go over and have a conversation with the new neighbors they might surprise you and move themselves.

Seriously? Here's the deal. Hypothetically (we haven't had to actually deal with the problem since we make it abundantly clear that we are not "people friendly") if we are in a remote site for 3 weeks in a park consisting of 850 sites spread over 460 acres, only 80 of those sites being occupied, and someone chooses to move in a site next to us and you then suggest that WE move? You're kidding, right?

Actually, it someone pulls in and decides that a spot next to you is where they want to be for what ever reason that is your option. Or purchase your own property and solve the problem that way. I don't know what would make someone locate in close proximity to someone else in an empty park but if you do not like it there are only two options; move or live with it.

if you are worried about privacy you should stay home or black out the windows on your camper

You will not get any responses from people that do this because they do not see themselves as doing it. Thats the big mystery here, why people do what they do. Standing in any line someone will always crowd up as close as possible to you, like someone is going to cut in front of them. I like my personal space so stay out of it. I find its usually the men who are the worst violators. You can't control others behavior, as stupid as it might be so just be ready to do what you have to do, even if you were there first. We have moved once before because the neighbors moved in and there went the neighborhood. good bye. You can't fix stupid so remove yourself from it.

Here in the northeast the good campgrounds are at 90% capacity or more during the season and most decent campground sites (especially sites on the water) are reserved months in advance so it's not usually an issue.

Haven't read a single response from someone who parks next to the only RV and why.

The only reasons I can think of why I would do it would be site location, and that has already been disqualified. Other reasons-

I'm nervous of the area, but then if that were the case, I wouldn't know my neighbors either would I?

They may be hoping you have a wifi hotspot they can piggyback on.

Your the "host".

You are a safety net who may be able to provide instructions, physical or medical assistance in case of breakdown/malfunction/emergency, etc.

I cannot count the times I have seen RVs pull into a campground and slowly cruise the sites. They eyeball the neighbors just as much as the spot they may or may not choose.

If I were boondocking and desired to be alone, the sight of an oncoming RV may cause me to chain my collie or wife's barking sheltie to the front jack, and turn the music up. If that doesn't do it, I'd then choose to stay or to go.

Have been sorely tempted to do just that. We had 60 mph gusts here a few days ago. Limbs strewn everywhere. Shamelessly, my DW pulled one of the larger of them into the only site near us that could accommodate anything larger than 30'. It's worked so far!

Did you ever think, maybe when they first pulled in they said: "damn, some one else is always in the site I wanted, oh well I'll just pull in next to them." It works both ways, you should know.

We leave one of the Harleys parked out in plain site. Usually my big black one. Works like a charm.

You could always post a sign saying do do park, within a half mile, of me or you could wait at te gate and escort them to the site of your choice. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think we have a band in the works; 2 tubas, drums, accordion and off key bagpipes. Can we plan to take over a campground of our choosing? LOL
