Equalizer bars

Currently I have a 1,000/10,000 hitch. It looks like that if I wanted to upgrade the bars to 1,200 or 1,400 that I would have to replace the head unit as the bars are 1/8" wider.Looks like it would require a whole new hitch.

1. When you weigh with WDH bars disengaged, where do you place the bars?2. When adding or removing washers, do you need to remove the large head bolts ? Manual says to loosen angle set bolt and add/subtract washes, implying no other action is needed....
